You are the worst kind of person. You deny any responsibility for the victims by dismissing the importance of gun safety laws. You’d rather win an argument than save some lives. No. Let’s not go step by step. The evidence is there. Less guns and more regulations reduces gun violence. It’s true all around the world.
That's kinda figured how you'd answer. All emotion and conjecture, but avoid any conversation on the subject. "The evidence is there". I'm not arguing your "evidence" (frankly because you refuse to specifically discuss it). I am, however, pointing that there are lots of regulations in place right now and they don't seem to stop anything. So I'm asking what you'd change. And of course, you avoid answering it. I'm sure you'll inevitably move me back to your ignore list as you short circuit over it. But please understand it won't be because I'm being uncivil to you. Just because you're unable/unwilling to engage.
You're talking to a guy who instructed his child to attend school mask less against school policy during one of the worst local Covid outbreaks. If people have to die for his 'personal freedoms' he's all for it. And any attempt to explain statistics to him is futile he's a dumb ass concerning numbers and charts.
No.... he's not. He may like his guns, but he's what every gun owner in the US should be more like. Responsible across every metric when it comes to proper ownership and safety. You can't deny that. If every gun in the US were owned by someone like him, we wouldn't even be having this conversation. Put politics and masks or whatever aside. His posts (regarding guns) speak for themselves. ~jmho.
Thank you, Van. But logic based arguments don't work on the emotional. I do lock all my firearms away, with ammo locked separately. I've trained my son extensively on firearm safety long before he got a chance to fire them, including leaving (triple checked) empty firearms in the house to see what he would do when he found them. He diligently came and told me without touching them. The only firearm I have loaded is locked in a biometric safe under my bed - which is if we were ever broken in. Though my house is essentially fort knox between all the locks and alarms. What's more, I absolutely agree with a lot of common sense gun laws. I also believe firearms shouldn't be allowed until 25 with military based exception, and that open carry should never be allowed (but concealed OK). I'm not some 2A crazy that keeps his guns to ward off the government. That's a silly argument. I do so for family safety. But again, these logical discussions don't work when emotions are high.
This is not what this thread was meant to be about anyway. If y’all want to have a gun debate I do not wish to engage because it’s just stupid. I’m sorry. Anyone with a brain can see America is the major outlier of the western world with all of our gun violence and the difference is very obvious. We have too many guns in America and not nearly enough laws. Anyway, I will go back to posting in this thread the unlikely happenings of gun violence in America I come across. It’s up to y’all to be honest with yourselves.
You’re not logical in the least. You’re argumentative. You make points that have little or no basis or substance and think you have won something. The “don’t argue with a fool” rule applies to you.
Hey, I merely commented on what YOU said. He's not "the worst type of person". You went there... not me. I merely chimed in with my opinion on YOUR remark.
Right, because of the two of us, I'm the one sitting at the table waiting for discussion while you stomp around the room in a tizzy. The offer is always there if you'd like to discuss it. That's what reasonable people do on a discussion forum. Of course you can just plug your ears, ignore anyone with a different viewpoint and post for your own gratification. That's also a strategy, I guess.
I have outlined my thoughts on gun control on ET multiple times. However people don't want to have a serious discussion about gun control on ET. Here is my summary once again... https://www.elitetrader.com/et/thre...victims-police-say.318269/page-8#post-4606411 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I actually believe that some reform of gun laws are needed. This puts me at odds with a number of posters on ET and the NRA. Similar to vaccines, the manufacturers and/or importers of guns should pay a fee for each unit to a fund that is used to compensate victims of those who use guns improperly. Vaccines do this now for people who endure severe side effects. Of course the above puts me at odds with the NRA and others, but I believe some types of reforms are needed in gun laws. Additionally there should be a focus on requiring proper training, getting criminal using guns off the streets for long periods of time, and nationwide laws regarding concealed-carry & permitting. The federal government has already defined in law that they can legally restrict what guns you are allowed to own; this is why we cannot walk around the streets with machine guns (fully automatic weapons) and rocket grenade launchers. These restrictions are not deemed to be a violation of your second amendment rights -- which also means the federal government can certainly (and legally) extend the restrictions to magazine sizes, weapons types, bump stocks, and other gun related items --- which I believe at some point they will do. There also needs to be measures taken to keep guns out of the hands of the mentally unfit. This character in the school shooting being one example. If you are expelled from a school for making threats then you should not legally be purchasing guns for some defined period of time until a professional who provides you with treatment pronounces you are mentally sound. Generally I believe we need better screening when someone purchases a gun in the U.S. - so people with mental illness cannot get their hands on weapons. There are plenty of others that disagree with me about further gun regulations but I think the time has arrived to come together and address the issue. IMO -- the following things are needed in the U.S.: 1) Require all private guns sales be registered with the government. 2) Background screening for all gun purchases. 3) Increase buyback programs to get guns off the streets. 4) Mandatory minimum of 10 years for a drug or robbery crime committed with a gun. 5) Destruction of all guns seized in crimes (unless it was stolen and the original owner is obvious). 6) Make bump stocks illegal. 7) Reduce allowed magazine sizes. 8) Get gun education back into schools (like when I was a kid).
