Another definition for spam, perhaps broader, seems appropriate for social media, especially politics, could be as follows: Spam is the unsolicited selling of a good, service, or idea in the expectation of compensation in the form, including money, recognition, and or self-actualization. Most, if not all actions initiated by people, involve a desire to fulfill a need of their own. Fulfilling their need or even the attempt to fill their need can provide the emotion they are looking for, such as feeling good. For example, even a teacher who helps people learn something useful for free is often seeking recognition, gratitude, a feeling of accomplishment, or to feel good about themselves in another way. It seems fair to say that much of the political discourse in the politics section of ET does not even rise to even the level of “Teaching”, to put it mildly. Given the expanded, practical definition of spam above, would it not be reasonable to say we all create spam daily on social media and as we go about our daily lives? As far as easymon1 is concerned, he often posts content that is not relevant to the topic the OP has put forth. Further, easymon1 has repeatedly posted the same content, including after some of my posts as if he is following me around to remind me to watch a video that is important to him. While I did complain once to Tony Stark for his posting the exact same content three times on a day where I threatened to escalate to a moderator, after a heated exchange, Tony won the argument along the lines of our understanding and agreement of the rules regarding ET politics. Based on the preceding, there can be annoying ways of delivering spam that can create discontent beyond the mere contest of ideas. These elements may include use of demeaning language towards the poster, “Excessive” posting of similar content over a short period of time where multiple posters object, or a prejudicial renouncement against a class of people or ideas. However, the biggest key in my opinion in classifying “Harmful spam” is the continued posting of spam that has the aforementioned harmful elements in spite of a complaint given to the poster. I have never complained to easymon1, choosing to ignore his nagging spam, like it seems most here do with his other spam. In conclusion, if someone offends you, consider complaining to them directly. If they seem to continue to purposely try to offend you while violating the rules in ET politics, escalate to a moderator if the ignore or block buttons are not having their intended effect.
Some of those pirate movie sites are monetized where a person gets paid everytime some clicks their link. That could be the case with spammer sleazymon and would explain why he's posting that link over and over and over and over and over again on the forum.
Hopefully he is not violating ET's rules or laws regarding movie copyrights. I seriously doubt a pay-per-click link would cover the cost of a movie, but maybe the movie has moved to a different payment model at this point. It seems to me, whatever the political spectrum one is on, if one has to resort to underhanded ways in an attempt to get their message across, perhaps their message is not so good after all. That message is unable to stand on its own, even in the perpetrator's mind.
I see Monobrowtrading has put me on ignore. Was it something I said? In response to what Mono said to Overnight? By the way, actual truckstops are becoming increasingly rare these days, being displaced by "Travel centers" where public motorists are an important part of the fuel station operator's revenue base.
It was prolly the orifices comments. Some people are sensitive that way. Ken C seems to be sensitive about how he posts scary faces on his video thumbnails, and doesn't realize it. Point it out to him to try to help him grow his business, and he goes on an /ignore spree.
There is no way @Baron won't commit suicide at some point, given the crap he reads and comes across here every day. Question: why are some of you so extremely concerned about to the degree of being infatuated with other users/handles. Some of you analyze and clearly keep tabs on others post history, post patterns, timing of posts, and private details. What's up with that? Is ET your home, your life? I bet some of you guys even maintain spreadsheets to keep tab of stats on other users. Outright weird and creepy. Get a life.
Reply to your post is inline, below. Reformatted your post to provide room for my answers. QUOTE="M.W., post: 5633135, member: 532228"]There is no way @Baron won't commit suicide at some point, given the crap he reads and comes across here every day. Seems a bit hyperbolic and out of character compared to your earlier posts. Question: why are some of you so extremely concerned about to the degree of being infatuated with other users/handles. Your use of the word "Infatuation" creates an interesting characterization. I have never heard of you, yet I have analyzed your profile, post history, and posts. I noted that you joined ET on 3-1-22, already made 825 posts, but you ask the question below if ET is our home, our life. I also noted that you already have four followers, two of whom I consider substantial. Impressive, but I wonder why the word "Projection" pops into my head? (Rhetorical question). Some of you analyze and clearly keep tabs on others post history, post patterns, timing of posts, and private details. What's up with that? Speaking for myself, there are several reasons why I have analyzed posters of interest. One reason is to identify the substantial posters. Another reason is to communicate on their level. Another reason is to identify and analyze how different personality types interact with each other on social media. Finally, posting patterns can be like fingerprints. It is possible to identify a poster who has changed their handle through the way they use language, how they respond to certain situations, the types of subjects they frequent, post timing, frequency, and length, to complete a linear analysis. There is non-linear analysis of someone's posts to consider as well. There are many reasons why people, including myself, post and those reasons can change from day to day. While some of these reasons may not meet your approval, it is what it is. Is ET your home, your life? I bet some of you guys even maintain spreadsheets to keep tab of stats on other users. Outright weird and creepy. Get a life.[/QUOTE The above comment seems intellectually weak. You suggest a fact without support, you draw a unsupported conclusion based on that non-fact, then you offer advice when you have not established credibility. Personally, I do not need to keep a spreadsheet of posters and I don't, but would not be adverse to it if it helped me get more out of my time spent on social media. I preliminarily assess your personality type as an authoritarian with solidly above average intelligence, but with only above average communication skills. Your depth of knowledge is likely substantial, but your communication skills may detract away from an authoritative presence. Welcome to ET.
GAH! This website/forum is not "social media"! NO! This message board, and many others like it, were around way before "social media" existed! I HATE that equivalency. That is like saying that Usenet is "social media." *fart*
