What other platforms are you comparing with? I've heard a lot of negative about NT, but using NT7 both live through IB and simulator trading for a long time, I never had any issues to speak of. FWIW, my trading is done manually, one symbol only and a limited amount of charts (< 5).
DTN prophet x ...was pretty good,.. at that time Strat Devol was basic.. might have changed. Tradestation... good but doesn't offer independent platform for other brokers.. I could comment negatively about others but don't want to detract from their business.. it's all based on what your use to. I guess it's like picking a automobile.. everyone has a affinity for a certain design or UI.
Thanks Spectre2007, My strategies I test are typical scalping for 8-10 ticks profit targets on the 3-5 min bars charts, so there are times where the entry and profit target (or stop loss) occurs on the same bar. Using OHLC data only during back testing can reveal inaccurate results for this type of scenario. This is where NT intra-bar fills on a secondary data (1 tick data) helps because now the back test simulation is "actually" filling orders on tick data rather then OHLC data assumption of price movement in the bar logic in the back testing simulation. This can be programmed in NT7 and NT8 to gain more intra bar granularity for this scenario. One of the reasons I like NT8 is because of their High Order Fill Resolution technology which emulates the intra bar granularity for scenarios where the entry, profit target , and stop loss can occur in the same bar. With NT ability to market replay, back test, and forward test a strategy gaining confidence/trust/reliability of your strategy longer back testing performance results can be verified. When I get some more money saved up, I would like to buy a year of quality tick data and compare for extra gain of confidence in my back testing simulation. Right now, money is low for me. This is just my two cents.
I have some Q`s for mr. NT Ray. For how long NT7 will be supported? Many folks, myself included, have invested billions in NT7 and decades of time.Do you guys take it into account?
For as long as we can. There is no end date in sight and I would guess we are talking many years. For example, NinjaTrader 6.5 was support for 5+ years after the release of NinjaTrader 7.
NT7 is an excellent product. We use is to test some of our strategies and compare results with other platforms. Is anyone familiar with the NT7 code generation of DLPAL software? How difficult would it be to convert it to NT8? Or in general, what does the conversion effort involve? Learning a new language for example? OK, I just found a code example.
Is there any way to get NT on a mac without the whole parallels etc? I need a futures trading platform that has Market Profile, Volume Profile, etc for a mac
