When the knights of old, from Don Quixote to the knights of the Round Table, had done everything and got bored they used to go on a quest.
    Pick your quest...........

  2. Please stop, there is something wrong with you. Being a far right winger in Portlandia is not good for you lad. Do not post here here please? My best "advise" for you. Microtrolling is unseemly.

  3. I had seven veretbrae damaged, four crushed to 75-85% in my upper back with only a sliver of bone holding my spine up on one side. Repeated compression through the suspension on the passenger seat bottoming out. Another guy fractured his ankle but I'm sure was also battered to pieces. Many hits so hard you register them as a punch in the nose.

I had eight months in bed for 23 and a half hours a day in traction with only my left arm moveable due to splinters pressing on my spinal cord. While these slowly pulled back into their parent bone was a great opportunity to get started with trading futures, only so many movies one can watch. When you study something with that level of intense continuous focus I am certain it really clicks.

What followed was two years of constant pain, 3-4 out of ten, like a corkscrew shanking my spine in slow motion. There are only so many anti-inflammatory meds one can take as the liver can't handle it. Again, immersive focus on trading allowed me to block awareness of the maddening pain signal. Moving to Medellin was great as the weather is always perfect here, no cold and damp for my bones.

Spinal compression injuries are different however if you ever want an astounding physio (also inexpensive) send me a message. Could do worse than a visit combined with an hour a day for therapy.

Maybe you could work on getting back to as good as possible, but probably you already did.

Last year I developed sciatica, and I never thought I would want my back pain back. Seriously, if I have a choice I take the back pain over the leg pain anyday. Interestingly it is an either/or thingy usually only one presents itself. Sciatica reacts to cold, during the summer it is pretty much gone.

But as I mentioned, PT and stretching keeps it managable and I am actually pretty active. For any kind of back problem swimming is the best or at least floating in water...

  5. I love swimming, however my discs were squashed to bone touching bone. Any twist was just a grating crunch. The discs have puffed back up a lot now so I avoided spinal fusion.

But as you said, yes done everything imaginable however I have a good result. The back doc has never seen such a recovery. Of course most men have to drive to work and such, they don't find an inexpensive country and just take the time they need to heal.

This thread seems to have taken a medical " my pain was worse than yours twist " !

Sorry about the pain that some of my posts caused. :)

But in reality, once you get older, not having pain is more important than seeing Italy. Also, no matter how well financially someone is, let's not forget that death can be around the corner anytime and you need a shit load luck too for a long and satisfying life. There is no guarantee that you have 40 years to do this and that.

I am going to share the memories of Hal Finney, the second person who ever mined bitcoin. Shortly there after he was diagnosed with ALS (prognosis is death in 2-5 years) and died 5 years later. While paralyzed by the disease, he was emotionally satisfied with his life. If nothing else, just read the last sentence of his...

  8. Just different types of back injury. I don't normally talk about mine as I have found healthy people view discussion of injuries as a show of weakness and express their inherent superiority for not being injured. Odd thing with humans, I guess it is an evolved response to needing to leave the injured to die :) Anyway I learned very fast, don't mention the back to save the peculiar reaction by some. Anyone who has had real chronic pain gets it, those who have not are fortunate but going there some day.

I will get the preliminary lab work this afternoon as I said. I shall post what I can.

Last night I developed a pretty severe arrhythmia after eating an imported lamb burger, kept me sleepless for hours. The burger was probably loaded with salt or something else one could not taste used to break down fats and collagen. Salt sensitivity, a sign of heart ageing.

I recall a popular trader on FIO who was starting scalping had a massive heart attack on holidays. He had been a tired a lot but had been a pro tennis player for a bit I think? I guess being an athlete was deceptive for him. I shall also make an appointment with a cardiologist as reduced pumping could be a part of the picture.. hopefully not.

On the plus side I have started a 2nd company in Colombia yesterday (more notary purgatory today but then done) which will be useful for some minor ideas.

  9. Thanks, read through that. As an avowed Epicurean I agree, the absence of pain is good enough to call happiness. Anything more is a luxury. Without modern antibiotics we would all have a deep understanding of that, amazing it has been such a short time men have been free of so many chronic diseases.

A good reminder on perspective, ALS sucks. I used to work with a brilliant guy who was a high probability for Huntington's. He decided not to have the test which mystified me a little until I spent eight months in traction, a miserable state many weeks but you think, yep, what of this was just the beginning of worse?

Though I had my own could-have-been-bitcoin-mining-rich story, it does not bother me. Ok, some days it twinges but regret is toxic.
