Millions made, much of the world seen, what now?

  1. A good idea, I find Centrum Advance fantastic for giving even energy however my cousin swears by that CoQ-10 stuff. He is just over 2m tall so has similar issues I'd expect.

One of my employees has been having a hard time with his missus, I'll send them up to New Orleans for a week (very exotic for Colombians) on the proviso they bring me back some stuff. I'll still see the doc though, I was on a polypill however a real cardiologist is in order.

  2. Ground meat is mystery meat. I remember years ago, I used to buy lean ground beef and saw colors in the meat that I thought had no business being there. Ever since then, I either avoided ground beef or had a butcher grind lean cuts for me.
I'm pretty sure there's also a genetic component but, yes, there is the age sensitivity thing, too. Most people get way more sodium in their diet than they need. Was the burger cooked at home or was this a restaurant meal?

  3. Can't comment on the evolutionary component, if it exists. Personally, I don't mind when someone discusses health issues. It helps them to talk about it, a good friend listens, and you can always learn something new from the exchange. However, there are people I know, including a couple of distant family members, who only seem to want to talk about what ails them. They can't seem to go into enough detail and minutia, and it's all about them all the time. I don't think my general aversion to them is evolutionary. Their concept of a conversation is where they complain and you listen. Period. And then there's always the retelling, just in case you missed some of the details...

  4. I do feel bad for you guys with back issues. It can be very unsettling. I've only ever hurt my back twice, the worst of which was in January 2014. I think it was a sacroiliac thing. It was not good. I would have to bend sharply forward at the waist for several seconds to get some temporary relief. It then got worse in the summer of 2015 before almost completely an spontaneously resolving. I still get the occasional remnant from time to time as a reminder, but it's inconsequential by comparison.

My doctor had recommended physiotherapy, but I had physio for shoulder issues several years earlier to no apparent effect. The only thing that seemed to work for me was the passage of time for the body to heal itself. I know I'm probably wrong, but in my experience physio has been little more than voodoo. In the second instance, my back issue was resolved with a 10-day regimen of naproxen, an NSAID.

So it's not that I wasn't empathizing with you guys. It's just that I had little to add, and my minor issues pale by comparison to what you have described.

We can stop the health talk, I will just throw in a last one...

PT beats passage of time, everytime. Do yourself a favor and at least try it. It can be free (Youtube) and only a little time per day. If after 2 weeks there is no change, at least you tried.

When I got tennis elbow last year, I thought passage of time. After 3-4 months I still had the same pain, so I looked up some tennis elbow exercises on Youtube. Even doing those it still took another 4-6 weeks, before it was gone, but obviously the passage of time approach didn't work.

But hey, it is your body... Eventually I just felt really stupid why I didn't try PT much earlier...

  6. Well I guess a lot of my experience is people being a pain is relating to Colombia etc. and endlessly having to explain that I can't salsa etc. and yes, even a little bit is bad.

The freaking endless advice about their gym which has a kid with no understanding of spinal injuries and I can use their swimming pool etc. etc. They are fully developed people, very nice, but a little childlike in ways compared to Ireland or UK etc.

I'd really like to go dancing but crunch crunch of bone against bone into my skull is not a great soundtrack ;)

So I'm not complaining, I just wish nice people would force me to explain the same crap.

This thread has turned into an old fart's moaning page about their aches and pains.
I am more interested in the OP's thoughts on how to enjoy retirement. We all get old.

Humpy, you are a little grumpy. (although with a reason) OP wanted some advice and so far you haven't given any. Why don't you? Also, he is getting away from retirement because he has just started a new company.

And no, we don't all get old, did you miss the Hal Finney story? That is the whole point of this thread...

But anyhow to stay productive and positive, one thing I really liked was going on a sailing cruise with friends and family in the Bahamas. Small boat like 24 guests and 8 or so crews. Itinerary was pretty much up to us, sailing, eating all day, visiting small islands. The point here isn't just the vacation but if one has money he can invite less fortunate friends and family members....

Nope he won't, because he is DEAD. That was the point of the story. Health >> money, anytime.
