I don't think gambling provides any rational explanation how Dest turned his accounts into ungodly sums. Luck runs dry really quick in day trading stocks, even faster with options. If trading stocks is like swimming in rough water, Des is doing laps with saltwater crocs and sharks and has 4 45s tied around his waist. That's how much harder option trading is in my opinion. I avoid it as much as possible, he thrives in it.
I had two edges; the first is whatever, and the second is tax-deferral. I turned $17K into $7MM over 25Y. I had taxable accounts as well, but nothing touched the organic return on my IRA. It's analogous to fasting; you don't have to count calories when you're not eating... and you can't spend money that you cannot access. I have nightmares about two life-events... selling my 600 BTC (from $290 DCA) too early and not funding my IRA every year. I did sell some BTC at $18,xxx. Also, margin-IRAs facilitated the process, but only relatively recently.
I've discussed my DCA on contributions and arrived at the $17K figure. I'd recently pegged it to 90-100K and that was simply wrong.
