Well, I usually research a supplement before I try it out, multiple websites and reviews. Also they are not that expensive, so burning $15-20 is worth it if I can find something that actually works.

Since I don't like to take too may pills, I cycle them during the year. For example for the summer, I take Astaxanthin. Beside a bunch of things

it has a really neat side effect, it doesn't let you get sunburnt. It really does work that way. I used it all last summer. So if you are light skinned, take it for the summer and you can save money on sun lotion...

I have never run over 12 miles and these days, in my sixties, rarely go over 6. I get a EKG yearly and periodic ultra's and stress tests. My heart is healthy. My joints are stable and non-arthritic, I have no medical issues and take no prescription drugs. I suppose I have defied death according to some :sneaky:

  3. Again, I think that's great. Did you read the article?

I have yes, it can be hard to separate causation from coincidence but we know that running over 20 miles at a time has a destructive effect on the body, recovery is the issue. Early on, I wanted to train for and run marathons but my knees were not on board with the program...early warning system? It was just an ego thing anyway.

    Frederick Foresight likes this.
  5. Wasn't the ACV already suppressing your appetite?

I assure you I'm not trying to give you a hard time. Just trying to keep it real. If you are taking multiple supplements with apparently overlapping benefits, how do you know which one, if any, is doing the job?

Yep, there is no way to control for all the potential confounds in a study of human performance or behavior, be it Pekelo or a room full of PhD's in a lab.

BTW, I remember Al Salazar's running career from the 80's. He drove himself to inhumane levels of physical stress. I remember watching him train and race and thinking, this has to be dangerous. He wasn't the most talented runner out there but he willed himself to endure unreal pain. He also doped.

I have a hard time sticking with any supplement. I only took ACV a few times. I am just lazy that way, although the other day it was in my mind to go back to it. Now that you mentioned it...

Currently I only take 3: fishoil, Cissus and Astaxanthin.

Edit: Just took ACV, because of Frederick....

  9. :D

But if it it has so many beneficial properties, why would you have a hard time sticking to it? I would only have a hard time sticking with stuff that gave me no real positive reinforcement...

Because I am lazy in that way. Since your life doesn't depend on it, let's say you go to bed, then ask yourself, have I taken the evening pills? Well, if the answer is no, you might not want to get out of bed. See how easy it is???
