The system is just beginning. If he is correct under the law, there will be no trial. I am okay with that. Should the law be changed? Again, I do not know, I live in Illinois. Zimmerman has paid his price. He has paid his pound of flesh. I hope that if he is acquitted under rule of law, he can rebuild his life.
Nursy, stop being such a slimy racist or just admit you would love to protest in Sanford for Zimmerman's hanging.
To be crystal clear: the idea that Trayvon Martin did anything to provoke Zimmerman is an assertion without proof of any sort from anyone other than, of course, Zimmerman himself. On the other hand the 911 tape of Zimmerman talking to the dispatcher clearly shows Zimmerman to have been at minimum walking pretty fast and doing so while muttering something under his breath. He was in hot pursuit of ... a teenager walking home from the store. The teen is dead. But to call for a trial for Zimmerman is to be part of an ignorant mob? To say this is absurd is an extreme understatement. Also, re the ridiculous speculation - because that's all it is - that Trayvon could have set up an ambush of this guy: maybe it happened, but let's consider that Trayvon was staying over at his dad's fiancee's house, and so was probably less familiar with the ins and outs of the neighborhood than Zimmerman, who apparently patrolled the place pretty frequently. So, if someone was going to surprise someone else that night, it would be far more logical, if you're going to engage in this sort of speculation without proof at all, to think it would be the guy who goes through the place all the time and therefore would be far far more likely to know what way to take to surprise someone rather than the one staying over as a guest.
No, it's not absurd. We have seen this movie before. Duke lacross, tawana Brawley, etc. The local authorities investigated the case and decide that Zimmerman acted lawfully. Then the race hustlers, led by Al Sharton and encouraged by Obama, got involved. They staged mass demonstrations and engaged in threatending conduct, including apparently blockading the town police station. The authorities cowered in fear and did nothing, obviously well aware that any steps they took to maintain order would be labelled racist by the media. The governor of florida panicked and sent in an outside prosecutor, whose mission she and everyone else understood: Bring an indictment, no matter how unfair, to quiet things down before we have a full-on race riot. Eric Holder and Shaprton were practically highfiving each other afterwards. So yes, to me and plenty of others this looks like mob justice rather than a search for truth. Coming from the likes of Obama and Holder, it isn't surprising, but it is disappointing that the governor of Florida was so weak.
The judge won't be bothered with Sharpton or Obama or what any mob has to say. Has it ever occurred to you that you and the ''plenty of others'' are the other side of the same coin?
In the American deep south, Florida is not the deep south but perhaps this is relevant, I was told by a deep south social worker that it is not unusual for black parents to tell their children that the white man is the devil. I was walking home after dark one night when two black men, one I would guess in his late twenties and rather large, the other perhaps junior high age and rather small, followed me. I thought nothing of it, but as I approached my home the larger one jumped in front of me and said something that I did not understand. It sounded something like "Hey Dude." I ignored him and kept on walking. The smaller one then caught up to me and walked along side me for a step or two. We exchanged no words and I did not quicken my step. Then suddenly, he slugged me in the nose. I stopped, turned to look back down the street and looked down at my assailant, he was short and looked to be maybe about 14 years old. I looked him the eye and said "what is the matter with you?" He and the other man then retreated silently, without uttering a word, back down the street. I noticed that there was an older black man, perhaps mid 40's, about a half block away who was watching. I turned back toward my house and kept on walking the last few feet to my driveway gate. When I went in I noticed that I was bleeding from the nose, but I was not badly hurt. I did not report this incident to the police, and I have had no problem since but have avoided walking the same route home I took on that particular night. This is an anecdotal account, and it may not be significant, but it has led me to consider that the occurrence of black racism against whites may be a significant problem. If it is, it is most unfortunate and bodes ill for the future of race relationships. If it is true that black families are raising their children to be racists, as I have been told, it is just as bad as white families raising their children to look down on blacks. These unproductive and unfortunate attitudes do great harm to our country and society. I recount this here, because I think one has to consider the possibility that the Martin kid, because of his upbringing or other bad influence, was a black racist, just as one must consider that Zimmerman may have had racist attitudes. If two such individuals were to encounter one another, then I would think it not unlikely that violence could result. It is a very sad incidence in any case. Perhaps it will get sorted out in court, but the justice system in the U.S. is seriously flawed, so one can not be at all certain that justice will, in the end, be done. Regardless, from what has been reported in the media, it does not seem that there is enough evidence either way to bring the case to trial. That, of course, won't necessarily mean that the case won't end up in court. Politics will enter in and, sadly, may affect the outcome.
I don't think anyone but Zimmerman really knows but what evidence there is seems to suggest it was probably justified And yet here you are So he should have insisted that the police arrest him the night of the shooting AND THEN phoned the DA and insisted they prosecute him so we can find out if he's innocent?
The burden of proof is on the prosecution. After reading the Affidavit of Probable Cause it doesn't look like the prosecutor has much of case against Zimmerman. Neither the witnesses nor the forensic evidence demonstrate that what happened was anything other than self defense. It's unliklely that they'll get a jury to convict on these charges. There's a great line in the courtroom drama A Few Good Men: "It doesn't matter what I believe, it only matters what I can prove."
I love these guys who come up with this stuff. Trayvon's murder was already a man who felt himself justified in deciding that he and he alone knew the truth: "These guys always get away" he says. He'd already decided Trayvon was a burglar, obviously, and his mutterings demonstrate a determination to have a confrontation. Despite that, one says the prosecution doesn't have a case, and the other says it's mob justice. They have zero evidence that Trayvon initiated anything, in the meantime, other than their own hysterical speculations. But we're the mob. They've already decided, on the basis of exactly nothing, that it's self-defense. But we're the mob.
