Zimbabwe went broke seizing land, Venezuela is about to go broke seizing platforms?

Discussion in 'Economics' started by crgarcia, Feb 16, 2008.

  1. Zimbabwe went broke by seizing assets from white farmers.

Venezuela is about to go broke by seizing drilling platforms from international companies.

Zimbabwe agricultural production declined 80%; Venezuela oil production declined sharply, they are about to import 200,000 barrels of oil from Russia to be able to meet their OPEC quota.

Nobody wants to lend money to be used in seized Zimbabwe lands, because of legal and political uncertainty. Almost nobody lends money to Venezuela PDVSA, agan, bacause of legal and political uncertainty.

In short, seizing from the rich to provide the poor, only causes more povery on the long run.

  2. ya cause money given to the poor is dumb money

poor people suck at pretty much everything in life, the poor should only be abused, make them work to death, that is what they want, that is what they should get

The land the Zimbabwean white farmers owned was in the first place forcibly seized by white British settler armies from the poor blacks ancestors in the early 19th century. It was not paid for. The white framers paid the price for this, its not really their land it belongs to the blacks.

It was stolen loot on borrowed time. The same thing or even worse will soon happen to South Africa. The greedy whites there dont want to share the wealth and land they stole from the blacks. They will soon pay a price like the greedy whites in Zimbabwe. Thats why crime there is high, there is deep resentment of the wealth the whites have and are still not wanting to share it. They will lose everything because of their greediness.

In trading terms the greedy whites in Zimbabwe shorted the and lost out on delivery time because they were unwilling to buy(pay) the land back.

The whites in South Africa are still short enjoying their ill gotten gains soon they will be a demand to deliver in a not so kind manner.

So go long the metals group and enjoy the ride. eeh dont short them.

  5. We have, for all intents and purposes, the separation of 'Church and State.'

I wish it were possible to mandate the separation 'Brain and Heart.'

~The latter, it appears, poses inherent risks of it's own.~

"...take the pain and move on." - That's my vote.

  6. That's a dangerous thought process and I hope the "thing" behind this post, lives long enough, to reflect back to when once upon a time, "he" was human. Until that time you are doomed to be poor.*

    * Not necessarily monetary worth.

    ...................................................................................................

It appears that US voters have a choice between really bad ...and worse.... regarding the new impending leadership.

What I do notice is a parallel between Chavez and Obama in terms of knowing how to push the verbal hot buttons for the less well to do voters...This is a very simple game....It is all about getting a majority of votes....any way you can...

After reviewing the Obama tax documentation...this spells out quite clearly that Obama is not going to help the US...

Chavez made all these rhetorical promises to the majority.... less well to do voters...and so far has severely damaged the Venezuelan economy which will take years to rectify..if ever...

What I do like about Chavez is his will....but his economics and ancient socialistic beliefs will kill what´s left of Venezuela...

Obama also seems to have the will....but this man does not have a clue about what will create the necessary economics to help the US...and much like Chavez...will turn $1.00 into 50 cents....

Thus leaving a lot less to spread around....which is really what both of them are claiming to set out to do...
    ........................................................................................................

On the other hand you have Bush remnants lying around...and I am sure the American public are pleased that the Bushes will be backing McCain...and from what I can tell McCain will be better for the economics of the US than Obama...
    ....................................................................................................

Thus the interesting task at hand is how do the Americans keep these unsavory events from occuring...and/or how can the giant ship get turned around...

I do not like to see any country´s assets squandered when it is not necessary...particularly the US because of its most important position in the world...
    ..................................................................................................

So far...there has been a sloppy attempt to help the US economy by handing out checks by which over 90% will be going to China...

The very subprime crisis whose bond values are graduallly being marked to market is being overseen by a man whose firm made a lot of money creating and marketing the very instruments that are causing the problems...and yesterday mentioned publicly beside Bernanke he had nothing whatsoever to do with it...

What is very clear to me is that the Bushes would think it ideal for Obama to face off with McCain...because Obama´s approach to taxes is going down the wrong road...McCain will win on this issue alone...
    ..............................................................................................

What is clear to me is that a new form of capitalistic government is needed for most countries....

The items that I have mentioned before are very simple...but if they are implemented ...will turn the US in the right direction for many years to come...

Eliminate the IRS.....adopt a consumption tax only...

Internet based Education...level the playing field

Internet Based Government...by and for the people

Ban oil...and replace with solar electricity and other forms of electrical production...

Eliminate legal largesse...particularly with small business..

Eliminate health care as a business

Enhance the electronic stock exchange by making non obligatory money available to those that make up a great deal of the current bank portfolios...All individuals who spend their lives making companies what they are ...deserve company stock...

Ban ethanol produced from agricultural lands ....this needs to be stopped now...big mistake...

These changes need to start happening now ....

This applies to all countries...not just the US...
    ..................................................................................................

Yes indeed there needs to be a new form of capitalism...one that realizes the fullest values of its assets...while also avoiding the economic straightjackets of old theory socialism....

Surely countries of the world can do better....and some will....

So Capetown is not a good place to trade from?

  9. Using that logic i guess the Americas ought to be returned to the natives. Should Manhattan be razed and returned to the Lenape tribe? After all, it's really their land, right?

  10. The argument that someone's ancestors "stole" our land has led to nothing but misery everywhere it has been used. You need only look at Palestine.

The problem in Africa has nothing to do with whites, current or past. It has everything to do with the rule of law, something that seems inconsistent with the tribal system most Africans seem incapable of breaking free from. Africa was far more prosperous, progressive and safe when it was ruled by the colonial powers. That is a tough pill for most Africans and their enablers in the west to swallow, but who can doubt it? Mugabe's land grab had about as much to do with social justice as democrat plans to raise taxes here have. It is about power and the spoils thereof. The vast majority of those seized lands were taken by Mugabe and his family and cronies. Now that the formerly productive land cannot feed the country, they demand aid from the west. Mugabe would stand by and watch his countrymen starve rather than do the right thing and resign and let someone try to repair the horror he has created.
