So it's win-win. Cool. How serious would the threat have to be to bring back DDT? We're ok with millions of Africans dying from malaria. No DDT for them. If the children of rich elites were dying, I predict they would discover that DDT is actually not an environmental threat.
AAA, the problem is nobody is dying from it. Here the symptoms of Zika. http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/zika-virus/symptoms-causes/dxc-20189274 "As many as four out of five people infected with Zika virus have no signs or symptoms. When symptoms do occur, they usually begin two to seven days after being bitten by an infected mosquito. Signs and symptoms of Zika virus disease most commonly include: mild fever rash joint or muscle pain Other signs and symptoms may include: headache red eyes (conjunctivitis) Most people recover fully, with symptoms resolving in about a week." So you have an 80% chance of having no symptoms whatsoever. If you do have symptoms, you may have a mild fever, a rash, joint or muscle pain, headache or red eyes. The whole episode may last an entire week. THE HORROR. Lets find some kid with a shrunken head and go into full scale panic mode. It runs non-stop on the news shortly before the Olympics. The media scares the shit out of everyone. They make all these claims that it is all over Florida and the south. Then the Olympics end and the story gets completely swept under the rug, never to be heard from again.
It's precisely the link to microcephaly that makes Zika a big deal, not the fever/aches symptoms that have more in common with Chikungunya. Pregnant women need to be exceptionally concerned. The rest of us, not really.
Ohhh Tsing Tao decides to actually post something that contains a valid argument. Welcome to the club. The question is, why did it get so much hype when it did, then why did it just fizzle out. Why were MEN scared to the Olympics? Why did the media never tell you that unless you were a pregnant woman Zika is no worst than the flu? Why the hype, why the hysteria, why the nonsense?
First, discussing anything with you is almost always a waste of time. You're openly hostile from the start, care nothing for points other than your own and consider yourself above everyone on the forum. In short, you're a blowhard. Perhaps if you were a bit more civil you'd get more discussion and less flame wars. I have a suspicion that you perform poorly in real life social situations. Second, your initial post began with "Zika is a hoax." This opening salvo is pure horseshit. Zika is not a hoax. It represents a very real threat to a substantial portion of the population. You may not be in that demographic. I might not. That doesn't mean the threat to pregnant women isn't there. You can say that the hype is overblown. You can state that the media made the issue bigger than it had to be. These would both be correct, in my opinion. But you didn't. You said it was a hoax, which is completely and totally inaccurate. Put that in your pissy little pipe and smoke it.
LOL, dude it was a complete and total joke pal? Second I am never hostile from the very start. I am only hostile towards stupid people. If you sense a lot of a lot of hostility from me, then I guess we know what group you belong to. Its not all bad though, at least you are not Tom B or FutureCurrents, so you still have that to hang your hat on. Finally, the level of over reporting and inaccuracies in the reports concerning the threat from Zika put it in the full scale hoax arena, but hey its the media what can we expect. Maybe I have a bit of higher standard than you.
Ah, now it's a joke. The moment you get called out on your asininity, suddenly it's all about a sense of humor. Well, there's certainly a joke in this thread. The source just might not be what (or who) you think it is. Nah, you're the personification of civil discourse itself. Another joke. The inaccuracies don't put it in the "full scale hoax arena". Simply because it's a threat, not a hoax. Don't try to back peddle.
I am still waiting. This whole Zika thing has completely fizzled. I guess we can throw Zika into the category with Swine Flu, Bird Flu, Y2K bug and global warming. This whole Zika thing has failed to deliver almost as much as Trump saying he was going to repeal Obamacare.
You're still surprised that a virus with newly found links to microcephaly, a virus which is incurable and sexually transmitted was a big story among countries whose populations were about to travel by the hundreds of thousands to at-risk regions? You're surprised that was a big story?
