Over 60% of Americans supported mandatory vaccination for the workplace in recent surveys. The ones who do not were never going to vote for Democrats anyway.
Although I am technically a contractor for a large, US based trucking carrier, I have no doubt they will mandate vaccines, at which point, if not sooner, I will terminate my contract. I will either leave the industry, work for a less than 100 employee company, or do something different entirely. Vaccines have multiple, short and long term downsides, which makes measuring risk to reward of viruses and vaccines a necessary, fundamental decision. COVID is not smallpox, or anything that approaches a imminent threat to society. Look at the hazard ratio per 100,000 for guidance, especially those aged less than 54 without comorbidities. Why should the most healthy among us risk having their health weakened for a low risk threat to them? The vast majority of people, even if infected, have mild symptoms and will end up with a more robust immune system versus the heavily vaccinated, to fight off other virus types, infections, or even future COVID variants. For at-risk populations, a vaccination, or even multiple vaccinations, can make sense, but that decision should be left up to them. One vaccination every six months for a virus of moderate concern for the general population will certainly have adverse long term health consequences for society. The US healthcare system has a long history of over subscribing healthcare. From opiates, antibiotics, elective surgeries, and heavily advertised pharmaceuticals for which a proven natural, herb based solution is available, has weakened the health of US citizens. For reference, look at the comparative health statistics between the US and other developed counties such as general health, birth survival rates, and life expectancy. Holy high frutose corn syrup! In the end, we are ultimately responsible for our own health, even if it is necessary to avoid mandates for relatively moderate hazards. It is in society's best interest to have some, preferably many, with strong immune systems for when a severe biological threat inevitably presents itself. Besides, time and time again, nature has shown there are no free lunches, whether it involves the environment, predator versus prey balance, or vaccinations.
Biden is talking about mandating weekly testing. You can avoid being tested by voluntarily getting vaccinated.
Polls are unreliable because US media manipulates public opinion either before polling is done or through polling itself, using questionable methods. Public opinions are influenced by polls because of the inherent psychological need of most people to feel they are part of a group, especially a group receiving praise, as US media will often bestow upon the targeted group in corordinated efforts to "Guide" people into the "Right way of thinking". This is the fundamental way propaganda works, often against the best interest of a targeted group for the benefit of another group, often to a smaller group of great wealth and concentrated power, such as pharmaceutical companies through their big lobbys. As far as evaluating whether a news story is propaganda or marketing, follow the flow of money and power. Ask who gains money and power and who loses. This often includes evaluating arguments presented by the media to obscure the issue, including arguments that improperly use emotional, coersion, and invalid statistics, along with very frequent repetition. Bottom line, think for yourself and always take the time to critically evaluate a news story or other written information for that matter, before relying on it to make a significant decision or base your opinion on it.
The U.S. statement for private businesses > +100 employees is... Vaccination or regular weekly Covid tests. Simply, there's an option for those that do not want to vaccinate nor want to lose their job. Anyone pretending "vaccination" as the only option has completely missed the point about protecting the welfare, health, and safety of their co-workers. Sadly, we had other earlier options but the American people didn't want to do those too like a bunch of spoiled brats. The result is today after once again...pushing the government to be heavy-handed in dealing with another surging Covid crisis that's threatening our hospital's ability to treat Covid patients and other patients needing hospital care for other illnesses and injuries. By the way, Covid nasal tests are really nothing. It could be much worst...such as a Covid anal test in some countries. Also, you may not need to get out of your auto when you pull up in the parking lot at your job. wrbtrader
Somehow weekly testing is practical? Who pays for the test and who profits? For privacy, security, and productivity reasons, I will "Voluntary opt out" of weekly testing as well. Being resourceful, if necessary under "De facto" mandates, does have its advantages. It will be interesting to see how US "Mainstream" society will evolve as those who are willing to think for themselves and who stand up for what they believe in,over convenience, are effectively isolated from the order takers. Don't we has enough "Hidden" societies as it is? Can't help but feel US innovation and productivity competiveness will be increasingly hurt over time as ever draconian laws and censorship are put into place, ultimately even affecting the order takers of society who are often too willing to follow the path of "Least resistance". Edit: I expect many large US companies to fall into line and mandate vaccines. As a service provider to and Fortune 500 company itself, the company I'm contacted to will likely impliment mandates. Maybe not immediately because of the impending holiday busy season, where "A wave" of "Early retirements", in a tight market, would be counter productive to most.
To those who say I need to get a vaccine to protect others, is it not true that vaccines are considered effective for those who actually take them, at least for a while when it comes to Covid? In other words, since vaccine takers are considered relatively immune to Covid, what difference does it make whether I take the vaccine? As far as deflection attempts using Texas abortion legal efforts, I don’t have a horse in that race except to say Republicans are mind numbingly stupid from a strategic political optics standpoint. By strategic, I mean nationwide. Besides, more abortions may mean less Leftists and anti-Covid vaccination may mean less Conservatives, potentially leading to a more representative Government? To wrbtrader: What is the matter, wrb? You are afraid of debating me and want to keep me from quoting your posts, so you put me on ignore? Weak. Very weak. Just like your position on Covid mandates. By the way, would not the corollary to the new Covid mandate/weekly testing policy in anti-Abortion terms be you have the choice to “Get sterilized”? or deliver the baby?
I did two years of the secondary school debate team and two years of the college debate team. I'm not in college anymore. Thus, no need to try to impress someone nor desire to win some bullshit online debate with someone I view as an oxygen thief when the audience does not give a shit. As for Covid mandates...I've only discussed them a few times. I don't approve of them except in the situation involving the military people because vaccines are just a small part of being a soldier, especially when being deployed to foreign countries and I've been very clear about such from the beginning prior to any discussion by anyone since the start of the Pandemic. The warnings were on the wall early last summer when people didn't have what it takes to defeat a disease because some of us looked further down the road as in preventing the government from overstepping its boundaries as the disease was prolonged by ignorance. Yet, it's hysterical to see some like you get uptight about a weekly nasal swab when they most likely have to take an annual physical working for a trucking firm. Just as funny, their initial foundation on the issue was only about vaccines while mentioning no other options...never mentioning any weekly nasal swab. The reason for my consistent poke (joke) of the situation with images is because as they say...sometimes you just need to chill and find the humor in people's misplaced negative attitudes because they will bitch about anything before it reaches the level of a Covid Anal Swab Test...something they've felt before at a complete physical at a Doctor's office that uses his/her fingers. You Reap What You Sow There is a bright light at the end of the tunnel for those looking for employment. They will fill the positions of those not able to adapt for a few years of a situation not fair in a Pandemic. Write your U.S. senator if you have the need to express your intellectual thought about the situation. wrbtrader
