immigration is a self-selection process... the most hard working / risk-taking portion of the population are more likely to uproot from their home country, go to a foreign land and try to create a better life than they otherwise would have if stayed home.
Affirmative action has been in place since the 1970s, i.e. nearly half a century. In 2005, the Supreme Court explicitly approved the use of race-based affirmative action in college admissions. Justice O'Connor wrote, "We expect that 25 years from now, the use of racial preferences will no longer be necessary to further the interest [i.e. diversity] approved today." Is she on track to be right? The problem is that all groups are not equally adept at everything. Your options are to set a level playing field and let the chips fall where they may (post-Enlightenment meritocracy), or else hand out prizes to avoid hurt feelings. How comfortable are you being operated on by a doctor who entered med school on the strength of his "adversity score"?
Yes in your theoretical world. In the real world most likely the hedge fund family is white, the doctor family is Asian and the ones on meth and single parent households are black. That is at least what the statistics say. So, however you twist it and turn it race in America plays directly into the score and score into race. Races perform differently even when you raise them all in the same great house and pool and with tutor.
Don't know. If your dad was in jail, that trauma goes down to at least two generations as far as I know. So I would guess based on the "civil rights" movement, that it could be correct +/- 10 years as long as there is no reversal in the collective trauma for certain groups. As long as s/he passed the exams in the end, I wouldn't worry about it. I know right now, there is a doctor in Chicago who is dumb as a doorknob and gets paid ~$300K/year who somehow graduated med school.
Well, isn't it clear by now that colleges are not interested in that? They care about diversity. A class without 15% blacks, and 2 guys from Iceland, and 5 trans, and 7 from outer space is not a real class. The disgusting truth is that liberal lawmakers and strategists are not interested in improving opportunities for those who lack them, if they were then they would suggest solutions that actually attack the roots of all those differences. But they know perfectly well that the actual root is something that makes up our different races and cultures and heritages. So when this can't be changed then why not switching from equal opportunities to equal outcomes, so they think.
If it really were a race thing, you'd expect Nigerian immigrants to fail. But they do well. So it's not race, it's pretty much upbringing and family circumstance. https://www.ozy.com/fast-forward/the-most-successful-ethnic-group-in-the-us-may-surprise-you/86885
And many are still under educated today and still do the same jobs than the first generation did. Vibrant and highly educated and financially successful are terms that have different meaning, are you aware of that?
I feel like I'm in a discussion thread on /r/the_donald so I'm going to click that blue button now. G'day mates.
it gets old having to walk around and know that speaking the truth can get you fired or disbarred in many cases. why are so many people invested in a lie?
Don't know, perhaps it is the motivation to survive and to fight for a better tomorrow. My cleaning lady and her husband (from Central America, uneducated), clean houses 10-12 hrs a day 6 days a week. They earned enough to own their own home, drive a late model car. My handyman came from Asia as a refugee 10 years ago, didn't even finish high school back home, still speaks limited English, he and wife work as a team, work 7 days a week, no breaks, and already owns a remodeling business and owns a home. Daughter is graduating from college. I am sure there are plenty of immigrants in LA that day in day out struggle to survive, to get out of poverty. Give them a chance to work, even for peanuts, few would refuse because compare to where they came from it is infinitely better and they all have hopes that life can get better.
