Race is just one criteria. If a university strives to have high quality athletes represented, this can water down the academic quality. If a university strives to include a more STEM-heavy student body, this is unfair to polymaths and English majors. Life isn't always fair to all....whether you're dealt a bad hand by virtue of your place in society or your place in college admissions. At the same time, I respect your ideals. It's just that the real world isn't always all that ideal.

  2. I take that as a compliment though I actually hardly ever read or watch him, he is a little too academic in his approach and wording.

  3. I agree the world is never ideal. But another bad to fix the bad can't ever be good. Life is not fair and we shall work to make life fairer for all as long as it does not unreasonably hurt others. I outlined a few posts above how that can look like. Why do none of the liberals and Democrats ever tackle any of those issues? Because it's much more convenient to snipe at others, the rich and successful as they represent a minority. I think I made my stance sufficiently clear. I get the sense that we broadly agree.

  4. A great deal of pontificating so far. Lets just call it what it is. Another won't accomplish shit program which allows the virtue signaling left to feel good about themselves while sacrificing common sense at the alter of diversity.

Yeah I think we do broadly agree. But "none of the liberals and Democrats"?? That may be tad a bit unfair

The human genome consists of approximately 3,000,000,000 base pairs. A 1% difference equals 30,000,000 base pairs. While not all base pairs are of equal value, a 30,000,000 difference can lead to vastly different outcomes.

Homo sapiens can be divided into different sub groups based on the 30,000,000 base pair differences. (1% is probably a min.)

One of these distinct sub groups is sub - Saharan Africans.

African Americans are a sub set of sub- Saharan Africans.

The Bell Curve 1994 Murray and Hernstein 845 pages. An exhaustive statistical study of the differences between African Americans and other genetically distinct groups. Regardless of what environmental variables where controlled for African Americans on average scored 1 standard deviation from the mean lower than other groups.

When compared to the rest of the US population. African Americans on average where expected to have an IQ of 80 while the rest of the populations was expected to have an IQ of 100.

The conclusion of the study was that regardless of social programs, African Americans on average would lag the rest of the populations.

The study was criticize. The major criticism was using IQ as a measure of "success".

Regardless of the flaws, (I found the criticisms to be weak), the predictions made in 1994 of the inability of social programs to advance African Americans have so far been shown to have some validity.

The missing link in the argument was why? Why would there be a 1 standard deviations from the mean difference between African Americans and other genetically distinct groups.

Out of African Hypothesis - All homo sapiens can trace there origins to Africa. Some groups left Africa and some groups stayed in Africa.

The group that stayed in Africa is today represented by the sub-Saharan Africans group. African Americans are a sub set of sub-Saharan Africans

All other groups are groups that left Africa. These groups that left encountered challenging environments that required different traits to survive. Over time, thousands and thousands of year, via natural selection, of those that left Africa, those that survived where those who via random mutation acquired an altered genome that gave them the skills necessary to deal with challenging environments.

Those that stayed in Africa - sub-Saharan Africans - African Americans - did not live in a new environments, for thousands and thousands of year, that culled for enhanced survival skills. The African American genome did not acquire as many characteristics that would enable one to evolve in a challenging environment.

Those groups that left were actually exploited by the dominant group that stayed in Africa.

A good summation from the article...

The solution to the academic achievement gap lies in cultural change, not in yet another attack on a meritocratic standard. Black parents need to focus as relentlessly as Asian parents on their children’s school attendance and performance. They need to monitor homework completion and grades. Academic achievement must no longer be stigmatized as “acting white.” And a far greater percentage of black children must be raised by both their mother and their father, to ensure the socialization that prevents classrooms from turning into scenes of chaos and violence.

I am a rather mellow person. I would let things slide. But when the dead are dung up, when I am consistently attacked for preferring my own kind - I am ready to stand and deliver.

I am proud to be who I am. And I prefer my own kind.

FYI - I am Irish American. I did not get a free pass into this country.

FYI - The only people today profiting off of slavery are a very small group of African Americans who are making it harder for all of their people. If they would only channel that energy into programs helping their own people.

FYI - To attack Robert E. Lee and Tomas Jefferson is beyond belief. These were two of the greatest Americans we have been honored to home.

Maybe we should all be black. On no wait, it is people of color. (What African Americans do not understand is they are being played by Mexican Americans. Do you speak
    Spanish?)

At Harvard, legacies are better candidates on average than other students, Harvard’s Dean of Admissions William Fitzsimmons said in a 2011 interview. Nevertheless, BLACKS get a bigger boost than legacies, despite LOWER academic scores. In fact, the boost from being black is so strong that Harvard limits the contributions of non-race factors to a black applicant’s composite admissions rating.

Just being BLACK quadruples your chances of admission to Harvard. The university claims that if race were not a factor, then the percentage of blacks at the school would fall to 0.6 percent, compared with the current 14 percent. The Asian share of the student body would be at least 43 percent, by Harvard’s own estimate, compared with 18 percent, if race were removed from the admissions equation.

The latest - I will pay for everyone's loan - only fosters the belief that you can borrow as much money as you can and not have to pay it back.

Black borrowers have higher rates of default
Nearly half of African-American students defaulted on a federal student loan within 12 years of entering college, according to the Center for American Progress report. Black students owed more than 100% of what they originally borrowed within that time, the report said

I HAVE THE SOLUTION. WHEN YOU TURN 21, JUST GIVE EVERYONE A COLLEGE DEGREE. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO TAKE OUT A LOAN OR PARTY ON CAMPUS OR ANYTHING. THAT WAY EVERYONE WILL BE EQUALLY QUALIFIED.

  10. I am a big fan of Thomas Jefferson writings and his intelligence and many achievements. But he also was a slave owner who used some of his slaves for his own amusement. It is fine to criticize that about him because it is true.
