You can certainly debate whether various anti-virus program consume too many resources or otherwise "efff up" your PC but the idea that they give you a virus is ludicrous.
Take a look at the following post for more information on cleaning up and protecting your computer. http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&postid=652302#post652302
Really? Seems to me like it would make all the business sense in the world. Like a cigarette manufacturer denying that cigarettes are addictive...
In case anyone is interested, Comodo has an excellent firewall which is free: http://www.comodogroup.com/ A review of it at PC Magazine: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,1969207,00.asp
Preferred to AVG which I had problems with: http://www.free-av.com/antivirus/allinonen.html I deactivate AV via toolbar icon when online trading tho it doesn't appear to cause any drags to the system or other programs. Free Sygate Personal Firewall, also had problems with ZoneAlarm, none with Sygate: http://www.tucows.com/preview/213160 Check if your ISP has antivirus, many now include it.
A prize for PohPoh --- the most moronic post on ET for a while! Well done PohPoh. Now you can get on with the rest of your life where I guess: - you won't vaccinate your children - allah is merciful and peaceful and whispers in the ears of his followers that nuns should be killed if the pope suggests otherwise - the zodiac is true and dinosaurs were invented to drag good people away from the lord - evolution is an evil theory distracting people from the truth of intelligent design.
I didn't quite get his logic. He let a "stupid friend" install a bunch of stuff which he wasn't even sure what it was on his computer, then complains when his system goes wack. I think PohPoh made a boo-boo. H
billp, some time ago now a virus and computer lockup was finally freed after uninstalling AVG. The virus in addition to whatever else it was intended to do also attacked AVG either by design or accident. Rather like some programs being impaired by ZoneAlarm although ZA has probably improved since 'then'.
