You gotta read this...electric adds cable broadband in Comp USA

Discussion in 'Hardware' started by ElectricSavant, Apr 13, 2006.

  1. Last year i had cable and a DSL connection as a backup. The DSL deal was from SBC, now AT&T again. The cable line when in Florida was Time Warners "Roadrunner", that was really good. The DSL line i was surprised was just as fast. DSL was actually switched to the order entry machine because cable seems to go down for repairs etc more often.

  2. Well,

I simply needed another ISP if one goes down...I have a deluxe version of DSL that I pay more for...so that is probably why the difference is not so big between cable and DSL for me.

But with all the rebates, I made money on the deal! Some people will not believe me...but I am telling the truth...you just gotta go check it out....

Why am I sounding like I am selling something? (it's just that it tickles me, to actually make money on a sale at a retail store through a purchase!)

  4. You can test your speed by clicking on this link. There are other testing sites that will test both up and down load speeds, but I like this one cuz it's easy to test and that means you'll use it more often and be able to get a more accurate view of your daily fluctuations, etc.

  5. Qwest offers different levels of speed...I have the fastest one....I think if you call up any DSL provider...they can bump you up for a price...

  6. Cesko

.....get this...There are three rebates!!!! a gift card for 50 bucks...a 60 buck erebate and a second erebate for 40 bucks. Now if I got my math correct....I make 70 bucks and get the modem free????

I got modem rebate. Filled forms and sent for gift card rebate and never got that one.

  7. That's right, deluxe is 1.5, and you can pay more and get more. Ie. I have a buddy out in Tallyn's Reach(east of Denver), that pays an addition $20/mnth and get 3mps.

When I signed up I switched away from MSN thru the Qwest package. I go thru another ISP. Don't know if that's a choice anymore, some new FCC rule. I got a letter about it a couple months ago.

  8. So heres the deal....Every serious trader should prepare for an "Event"
    • Multiple ISP's
    • Gasoline Generator
    • Non cordless Phone
    • Several Computers with software loaded for a fast switch in case one of the computers goes down
    • Phone numbers of Brokers/Dealers/Marketmakers written down for fast phone calls. Check these numbers from time to time to make sure you get straight to the trading desk.

  9. No rule...I got away from premier crap....and use qwest basic..I have one hundred email addresses with my webhost...

Stay away from Yahoo and MSN premium...they queue your emails and you cannot even "pull" them from their servers...

  10. Yea, different tiers is quite common. Never heard anyone refer to a faster speed DSL as "deluxe" before though...sounds kind of 70's-ish

    Good luck with Comcrap (http://www.broadbandreports.com/reviews/1579)
