  2. So you want the police to have to be at a stalemate with criminals and thereby have more casualties while trying to affect an arrest.

About what I would expect from you and PT and the other nut-job righties here.

No, I want the career violent criminals. The ones causing most of the problems to begin with, EXECUTED en masse.
But the bleeding heart touchy feeling liberals keep opposing what needs to be done.

  4. Oh, I see. Sounds like a well thought out, rational, practical plan. Again, about what I expected from you.

  6. Despite your loaded question, yes.

The 'bad' guys always have and always will get them anyway. They are criminals, who by definition, DON'T OBEY THE LAW. On the other hand, the 99+ % of gun owners who aren't bad guys have the same exact right to bear arms as the police do. There is no reason why the police or civilian federal agents should have access to weapons or equipment that ordinary civilians do not. If we don't want civilians driving around in tanks, then the police shouldn't have them either. Remember, cops are just regular citizens with a job.. they work for YOU the taxpayer, no the other way around. btw, there is no right to police protection in this country. There IS a right to defend yourself.

The police just need to be required to abide by the same laws the rest of the citizenry does. Presently they are immune from prosecution for 'negligence'. The standard for police is some undefinable limit called 'gross negligence.' Shootings like the one in this story usually result in, at most, firing or reassignment of the officers involved even though they have committed murder.

A similar incident occurred in Colorado several years ago. A person was leaving a bar and as he pulled out of his parking space it seems he may have accidentally bumped a cops leg who shouldn't have even been standing there. The officer and his partner unloaded two full clips each into the unarmed driver. Just doing their jobs said the police union.

So if a cop needs an assault rifle against certain types of criminals and I live in an area where those types of criminals prey on law abiding citizens but the police can't respond in a timely fashion if at all, why should I not have that same capacity as the cops?

  10. There is no reason to think we would end up like somalia, your assertion that gun ownership/gun laws alone determine whether a society is violent or not.. is stupid. Switzerland has a high gun ownership rate AND every adult male citizen knows how to use them. They are also more lax than we are in certain areas of the law and have a relatively non-existent homicide rate.

We have the most guns per person in the world yet we are not even close to the most violent. There are plenty of countries with a tiny fraction of the gun ownership rate here in the US which are much more violent, canu unnerstan' taht docuhe bag?
