You are not that special

  1. many people misunderstand the "being special" as privileged or spoiled - the fallacy of the US educational system and general pop psychology.
Even as speculators this creeps in and people's ego and self-grandiosity will get the best of them.

""Yes, you've been pampered, cosseted, doted upon, helmeted, bubble-wrapped," McCullough said in his speech. “Yes, capable adults with other things to do have held you, kissed you, fed you, wiped your mouth, wiped your bottom, trained you, taught you, tutored you, coached you, listened to you, counseled you, encouraged you, consoled you and encouraged you again. You've been nudged, cajoled, wheedled and implored. You've been feted and fawned over and called sweetie pie. ... But do not get the idea you're anything special. Because you're not."

One hell of a message, commencement speech or otherwise.
Everyone, I mean everyone should take it under advisement!
    Wonderful insight,
read the whole speech before you judge.

  4. Was this a speech to the kids, or to the faculty?

  6. pretty weak speech. bad public speaker.

just another super self-absorbed teacher who couldn't make it outside the library.

He could have done much better, but instead was more worried about how he looked. fail.

His delivery is poor. Just READ his speech. I think you'll change your mind, if not your LIFE.

    "Don’t be a hero.
    Don’t have an ego.
Always question yourself and your ability.

  9. well if we nitpick...as a teacher(as the speaker is) there is a BIG difference, of training - pertains to non school knowledge, taught -pertains to classroom, and tutored - is on the side after school or summer catch up, so next year won't bury you.
For example as a novice trader you are not taught in a classical sense, but showed the rudiments and monitored (like coaching), as trading cannot be taught, only showed the basics, same as violin, or football for the jocks. You see?

  10. Guess he's not special either :D
