    Endgame for Yahoo (Marissa Wins)

Yahoo's board has agreed to sell its legacy businesses to Verizon for $4.8 billion, less than 4% of the company's peak valuation at the time of the dot-com boom. Around $1.8 billion of that appears to be attributed to the company's real estate. The Wall Street Journal said Marissa Mayer, who has led the company through its last years of independence, stands to make more than $50 million in compensation if she is terminated as a result of the sale, adding to the $100 million she has already been given in cash and equity. A $625 million write-down on Tumblr, the blogging site that Mayer bought for $1 billion in 2013, had been the main reason for the $439 million second-quarter loss that the company announced last week. 4. I remember when Mayer was hired at Yahoo I said to someone "she looks like my secretary".

I also remember saying to someone that if I saw her sitting at our board room conference table I just might ask her to go get coffee.

Now maybe those were sexist remarks and maybe all of Yahoo's problems have not been her fault...but I did not, at the time, think she could do what was required. I remember seeing her interviewed at the time and was very unimpressed.

You know, maybe my remarks and feelings WERE sexist but we live in a sexist world and it's impossible for many people to take a cute little Finnish girl seriously at that level.

A lot of women got over inspired by wonder woman or something and are out of their league. A pity it had to end this way but that's capitalism for you. She's not complaining. Hillary might be another.

Very rarely is it the people who gave her the top job that are later questioned when it all goes wrong. Perhaps they should be looked at. Was she somebody's girlfriend or something and had little business expertise ? From the results it certainly looks like it. Did he get into her knickers with the job offer ?
