If he can sell the idea. Then surround himself with the brightest minds and enable a team to get things done and deliver. We may have something there. No way the incumbent party can do it.
This is spot on. It needs to be a multi-prong attack to solve the problem long term. One of the greatest economic growth periods in recent US history was when government invested in space R&D. The breakthroughs and spinoffs are still being used today to create new fields and technologies. There needs to be MASSIVE government investment in the sciences with no profit motive. This stimulates massive and unexpected breakthroughs that can then be utilized in all fields in the economy. It just doesn't happen in a capitalist system when PROFIT is the underlying factor that governs what research is then pursued. Prof Stephen Hawking, Brian Cox, Neil DeGrasse Tyson, Michio Kaku have all spoken extensively on the importance of doing this to rebuild the technical breakthroughs that create a strong and unique foundation and relaunch the economy. To try and straight compete on a labor footing with other countries that have reduced labor costs is a difficult fight to win when everyone is making the same things. Bring something new and unique to the marketplace that only you have the ability to supply and your manufacturing base is looked after in the process. Just look at China 20+yrs ago. Anything bought from them was expected to be of 2nd rate quality. They kowtowed to the west and allow themselves to be exploited in the short term and in the process revolutionized their production capability and up-skilled their working base to the point that in a lot of areas they are now on par with the rest of the "developed" nations but they still have reduced labor costs which makes it nearly impossible to compete with them on a unit/cost basis. We need to evolve or die. For the life of me, I don't understand why the US isn't retooling the country and cornering the renewable's market world wide. China has already identified the future and are moving in this direction. They are aiming for a full domestic energy independence with the majority from renewable's in a relatively short space of time. In the process they will become the largest and cheapest exporter of these energy systems in the world. Such a lost opportunity for the US once again because oil, gas and coal lobbyists ensure renewable energy is blocked and they can maintain their government subsidies. People in these communities that have lost their mining, manufacturing, construction jobs should have had government investment into new future industries built in these dying communities that would create an EXPORT economy once again. Instead, we get advertisements bought and paid for by the Koch brothers telling everyone to apply pressure to get coal, oil and gas jobs, that need government subsidies that require ever increasing amounts of government subsidy as time goes on and leaves the country falling further behind in its ability to compete and grow into NEW industries and NEW growth. I'm no environmentalist but its disgusting to watch the future energy opportunity being pissed away while maintaining a few select corporate profits. China is going to be so far ahead in 20yrs in this field that there won't even be a competition anymore. China is also currently developing Thorium reactors. A field that the US was originally studying and making great advances in until it was shelved (back in the 50-60's from memory) because it couldn't be used to make nuclear bombs with. Its still a long way off being commercial but China are investing into its further development and they are building on the US's original breakthroughs. If they create a commercial Thorium reactor, it will destroy the fossil fuel price and nuclear reactors. It will mean near limitless, clean, on demand, cheap energy. Once again, US ingenuity wasted for short term corporate profits. These are the type of technological breakthroughs that create the long term backbone of an economy. Without them, it withers and dies as it can no longer compete with others doing the same things for cheaper costs. Innovation is what creates economic strength, job security and long term generational profits.
You've solved the problem. Ok start evolving 47 million people and then go figure out what they're evolving into...
Trump wants to go Shale and Coal for energy when by 2017 Solar option would give cost parity. Both Shale and Coal are devastating for the environment long term. These in the name of creating jobs. Does he mean short term jobs in loss industries creating heavy carbon print on the environment and hurting health and agriculture? Trumpets wants cut government size......very good!! but then he turns around and declares more spending on defense. Defense? Is not the US "head and shoulders" above any or combination of major nations together. Reagan spent up to defeat "mega structure" of communism but what is Trump planning to spend to defeat? ISIS fanatics running around with $100 a piece AK-47s? How does Trump plan to bring back manufacturing jobs to US when average factory wages in China are $3.7/hour and lesser in countries like Indonesia, Vietnam and few others. Overseas import shipping will be cheaper but not cover more than $5/hour of margin. Standing today even Robots cannot defeat Chinese labor as Robots cost easy $8/hour to operate. Kicking out illegals has some partial justifications but then who will do the jobs that they do as common Americans do not want to do these jobs at $8/hour. Heck they would rather be on welfare than stand in sun and pick berries for farmers or work construction skilled trades at merely $10-12/hour. Backing away from Trans Pacific Trade accord, Trumpets is picking trade war with two major partners, Canada and Japan. Does not make sense!! So where is the magic thesis of Trumpets and his team to "Make America Great Again".
FYI he won the presidency with rhetoric. He'll back track some or It'll shake out soon enough. No way hillary is the answer. Let's give him a chance.
The majority are to blind to understand that they have once again played into the hands of corporations and a few who profit from this course. These industries suck financial resources out of the economy because they are subsidies. Subsidies should only ever be allowed in the short term so as to support companies/industries in a transition to becoming competitive again. If they can't be competitive, that capitalism at work clearly killing of the weak. If that process is actually allowed to function correctly, it results in a stronger, more robust economy. The current problem is that to much dead wood has been allowed to collect in the economic system which in turn stifles innovation, creation and growth. Once again, we see lobbyist winning and the people will loose. Chasing after these old industries will result in more subsidies, no investment in future proof jobs, no getting in on the ground floor of these new GROWTH industries. 10-20yrs time we will all be in the exact same spot robbing our future to pay the broken past. While other countries have grabbed hold and run with it making huge advances before the US starts to wake up. I actually had hope that Trump might just be different. The more I see, the more its clear he has brought in the exact same rot that everyone wanted "change" from. Trump has the ability and the means to turn the US around, he just has to make the stand against the Neocons that infect BOTH parties equally and stop their imperialism. SPEND THE MONEY AT HOME! Trump would be able to rebuild the country, ensure the people are well looked after, provide a generational education supercharge that would result in untold innovation in 10-15yrs. He could literally build the foundation for the next 100yrs.... But its looking more and more like it will just be more of the same instead. EXACTLY! People just don't understand they are in COMPETITION with labor costs that are doing the exact same thing as them but at FAR cheaper rates. If they want to actually compete, then there MUST be innovation to create something that ONLY they can output. Then it doesn't matter what labor rates are in China because the world can ONLY get such and such a product/industry from the US. We used to understand this but its been lost in the rush for short term consolidation and profits. True. There are farmers and certain industries that would fail if they didn't have access to cheap immigrant workers. This is one point I firmly agree with Trump about. The TPP and TTIP were nothing more then corporate protectionism. They have been negotiated in secret and allow corporations to sue countries if the laws in place to protect the people in those countries in any way result in less finical gain for corporations. Food and health standards essentially abolished, health and safety standards essentially abolish. It gives corporations the sovereign power and means countries loose any resemblance of sovereignty. Trump just does a really shitty job of articulating WHY these trade deals are bad in their CURRENT form. And he does an even worse job of explaining what he intends to do to replace their current form. There should be a more universal trade deal in place BUT it should not EVER be negotiated in SECRET without public scrutiny and input. It will effect EVERY man, woman and child of these countries and should have the full light of day shone on it throughout the entire process. We certainly can't trust the politicians to watch out for our interests when they are ALL (Both parties) bought and paid for by the very corporations these trade deals benefit. Last time I checked, most of the western world was still claiming to be "democratic" in our process yet strangely when it came to something so important as these trade deals that will effect each and every person indefinitely into the future, its conducted in secret and completely hidden away from the people it will actually effect yet the corporations who are the ones who will benefit are firmly on the inside establishing what will be of benefit to themselves. Every person in the world should have been fighting these trade deals simple because they were negotiated in SECRET. That doesn't mean there shouldn't be trade deals pursued, they just need to be open and fully transparent.
We've had the biggest deficits in history along with the slowest gdp growth during a recover during the obama years. I don't call that a fiscal multiplier. I call it throwing tons of money at the economy to keep it barely plugging along.
