Seem to be the Damascus gate. One or two men appear to wear distinctive round fur hats and long coats, Haredi or Mizrahi Jewish dress. In 1889: Jerusalem was part of the Ottoman Empire. The Jewish population of the city was already substantial, especially in the Jewish Quarter and expanding areas like Mea Shearim (founded in 1874). Religious coexistence, under Ottoman administration, was tenuous but functioning, and there was active economic life between communities.
