Hamas is functionally destroyed, but Israel keeps dragging out the charade... like the weekend at Bernie’s corpse beach party... because without that enemy, the rationale for razing Gaza collapses. The Theatre of Genocide.
Whether you like it or not, this conflict will not end until Hamas is eliminated as a governing and militant entity in Gaza. Hamas can voluntarily step aside, or be taken out via family clans in Gaza or a Palestinian Authority force. The bottom line -- no matter what your opinion of the conflict -- no long-term ceasefire will occur until the condition is met that Hamas is no longer in power in Gaza. This is a fundamental cornerstone of what is acceptable to Israel -- noting that all the major political parties in Israel support this stance, not merely the right-wing.
@Tuxan already made the point, Hamas is convenient, Israel doesn't want it to go away. And if it were to, Israel would create a new enemy to take its place.
That's not what is acceptable to Israel, Hamas is just a tool to achieve an end. Have you seen the You've been Trumped? documentaries? The ones where he bought land with an ancient ecosystem, promised to treat it with respect over and over, then bulldozed the shit out of it? He knew he would from day one and people were slow catching on. Gaza was always going to go, Hamas is as I have said many times a conduit of Israel's creating. You have the cart before the horse.

At this point, Israel wants Hamas to no longer be the governing and militant entity in Gaza. Bottom line -- When a new governing and policing entity is put into place in Gaza then this particular conflict will cease. If Hamas does not yield power then we will continue to watch this conflict until all of us are long gone from the earth.
