Hamas is a designated terrorist group in nearly every single western nation. Hamas are terrorists. I will note that the large majority of Hamas' victims are Palestinians living in Gaza. They have tortured and murdered thousands of them since 2005.
“Terrorist” is both a description of violent tactics and a rhetorical tool of delegitimization. Recognizing that doesn't excuse violence, it demands clarity in how we judge, who we judge, and how selectively we apply that judgment. I don't think I have every read any historical fiction, except perhaps The Man in the High Castle, but I think to keep it respectable thats in the "alternative history" genre. And every one that is killed with be replaced with one who was smart enough to not get killed. Emily Damari was probably fortunate to be with that guy to survive until release. From memory her grandfather was a London newspaper man. That higher profile likely slowed her release too. And so it goes. Bibi is never going to run out of people to extend his political career. Hamas genuinely thought the majority of their forces were going to be killed during the break out. Thanks to Bibi, they had little trouble. He is very good to them, stitched them up good at the same time. Had this been as expected, the equation would have been very different and no justification for genocide.
