Israel Escalates Conflict with Iran, Striking World's Largest Gas Field
Published Jun 14, 2025 By Tom O'Connor Senior Writer, Foreign Policy & Deputy Editor, National Security and Foreign Policy

Israel has escalated its ongoing conflict with Iran, striking the world's largest gas field and other energy infrastructure as part of a two-day assault that had otherwise largely targeted sites and personnel tied to the Islamic Republic's armed forces and nuclear program.

Iranian semi-official media outlets, including Tasnim News Agency and Fars News Agency, reported on Saturday that an Israeli drone struck Iran's South Pars Gas Field, which is shared with Qatar, where it is known as the North Dome Gas Field. The attack was said to have targeted Phase 14 refineries of the Iranian section, with at least one unit reportedly on fire, leading to a suspension in operations.

Footage circulating on news channels and social media appeared to show flames and smoke rising from a section of the complex, which is located in the Kangan area of Iran's south coast Bushehr province.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has yet to publicly comment on the attack.

Fox News cited an Israeli official as saying Saturday that Israel conducted a single strike on Iranian gas infrastructure near the southern city of Bander Abbas, serving as a warning against Iranian strikes against Israeli population centers.

The accuracy of the comments has been confirmed to Newsweek.

    Here's a conspiracy theory.....

1 Which country has 15% of its population as Russians?
2 Which country has a president who admires Putin?
3 Which country atm would particularly benefit from rising oil prices?
4 Which country just bombed Iran and deliberately sent oil price spiking?
5 What are the common denominators here: Trump, Netanyahu......

Pizza delivery monitor alerts to secret Israel attack

    Washington –
The timing of Israel's plan to attack Iran was top secret. But Washington pizza delivery trackers guessed something was up before the first bombs fell.
About an hour before Iranian state TV first reported loud explosions in Tehran, pizza orders around the Pentagon went through the roof, according to a viral X account claiming to offer "hot intel" on "late-night activity spikes" at the U.S. military headquarters.

"As of 6:59 pm ET nearly all pizza establishments nearby the Pentagon have experienced a HUGE surge in activity," the account, Pentagon Pizza Report, posted Thursday.
Not confining its analysis to pizza, the account noted three hours later that a gay bar near the Pentagon had "abnormally low traffic for a Thursday night," and said this probably pointed to "a busy night at the Pentagon."

While far from scientific, the Pentagon pizza theory "is not something the internet just made up," The Takeout, an online site covering restaurants and food trends, noted earlier this year.
Pentagon-adjacent pizza joints also got much busier than usual during Israel's 2024 missile strike on Iran, it said, as there are "a multitude of fast food restaurants in the Pentagon complex, but no pizza places."

Pizza deliveries to the Pentagon reportedly doubled right before the U.S. invasion of Panama in December 1989, and surged again before Operation Desert Storm in 1991.
President Donald Trump told The Wall Street Journal he was fully aware in advance of the bombing campaign, which Israel says is needed to end Iran's nuclear program. "We know what's going on."

For the rest of Americans, pepperoni pie activity was not the only way to tell something was about to happen.
Washington had already announced it was moving some diplomats and their families out of the Middle East on Wednesday.

And close to an hour before Israel unleashed its firepower on Iran, the U.S. ambassador in Jerusalem, Mike Huckabee, sent out a rather revealing X post: "At our embassy in Jerusalem and closely monitoring the situation. We will remain here all night. 'Pray for the peace of Jerusalem!'"

Netanyahu Asks Trump to Join war Against Iran

By Fidel Rahmati June 15, 2025

Netanyahu has urged Trump to join Israel’s military campaign against Iran, requesting U.S. support and advanced weapons amid escalating tensions.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has reportedly asked U.S. President Donald Trump to involve the United States in a military campaign against Iran amid intensifying Israeli airstrikes. The request comes as hostilities between Israel and Iran escalate sharply, raising fears of a wider regional conflict.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Netanyahu emphasized during a phone call with Trump that Israel urgently needs U.S.-supplied heavy munitions, specifically bunker-buster bombs, to effectively target and destroy Iran’s underground nuclear facilities. The report, citing senior American officials, indicates Israel’s growing concern about Iran’s nuclear program and its willingness to expand its military options.

In a related development, Axios quoted an unnamed Israeli official who stated that the possibility of U.S. participation in Israel’s military operations remains open, although it has not been formally adopted by the U.S. government. Washington, for now, appears reluctant to deepen its direct involvement in the conflict.

Earlier, President Trump had urged Netanyahu to refrain from launching attacks on Iran to allow space for continued negotiations over Iran’s nuclear ambitions. However, Israel’s latest appeal signals a shift in strategy, indicating that Netanyahu may be preparing for a larger confrontation should diplomacy fail or the conflict intensify further.

U.S. officials, meanwhile, have reiterated that Washington is not involved in the recent Israeli strikes and is focused on preventing a full-scale war in the Middle East. American authorities remain cautious about getting entangled in another drawn-out regional conflict, despite Israel’s appeals for support.

Israel’s ongoing military operation, codenamed Operation Rise of the Lions, began early on Friday, June 13, and has entered its third consecutive night. The airstrikes have reportedly killed at least 215 people, including 51 military personnel, and injured 648 others, of whom 31 are soldiers.

Iran has responded with retaliatory attacks involving missiles and suicide drones aimed at Israeli territory. These counterattacks have caused considerable damage, intensifying global concerns. International actors, including the United Nations and key world powers, have urged all parties to show restraint and resume diplomatic dialogue immediately.

The renewed conflict between Israel and Iran is shaping up to be one of the most dangerous escalations in recent years. The possibility of U.S. military involvement introduces a new layer of geopolitical complexity and raises the specter of a regional war with far-reaching consequences.

As both sides continue to trade fire, the window for diplomacy is narrowing. The international community must act swiftly to contain the violence and prevent further destabilization. Without immediate de-escalation, the region risks plunging into a broader and more devastating conflict.

Trump said in a social media post that he took a phone call from Putin Saturday morning who called to “very nicely wish me a happy birthday, but, to more importantly, talk about Iran, a country he knows very well.”
