Pretty much sums up the Israeli government's view on the path forward. The initial step is eliminating Sinwar and the other top Hamas terrorist leaders... after this the rest falls in place.

Victory over Hamas in Gaza hasn't been achieved, but it's within reach - opinion
The continuation of fighting until Sinwar is eliminated, the hostages are freed, and Hamas is defeated—will constitute a total victory, and this is within reach.

Israel closes Al Jazeera bureau in Ramallah: All you need to know
At 3am, heavily armed Israeli soldiers raided the office of Al Jazeera in Ramallah, throwing the team out.

On live television, heavily armed Israeli soldiers raided Al Jazeera’s occupied West Bank bureau in Ramallah and handed the bureau head, Walid al-Omari, a notice to shut it down.

The soldiers ordered everyone working the overnight shift at the bureau to leave, telling them they could take only their personal belongings.

    Who closed the bureau?
The order came from the Israeli military authority despite the bureau being in Area A, an area delineated as being under Palestinian control in the Oslo Accords.

Wait, so if Ramallah is under Palestinian control, how can Israel do this?
This is not the first time Israel has undertaken actions in the Oslo Accords-defined Area A, where Ramallah is and where the Palestinian Authority (PA) has its seat.

Israeli military shuts down Al Jazeera bureau in West Bank raid

Qatari broadcaster says it has been ordered to close office in Ramallah for 45 days after being banned from operating inside Israel

Israeli forces raided the office of Al Jazeera in the occupied West Bank on Sunday and issued a 45-day closure order, the Qatari broadcaster said, with footage showing heavily armed and masked troops entering the premises in Ramallah.

“There is a court ruling for closing down Al Jazeera for 45 days,” an Israeli soldier told Al Jazeera’s West Bank bureau chief, Walid al-Omari, the network reported, citing the conversation which was broadcast live. “I ask you to take all the cameras and leave the office at this moment,” the soldier said.
Al-Omari reported that Israeli troops brought a truck to confiscate documents, devices and office property.

The broadcaster said the soldiers did not provide a reason for the closure order.

There was no immediate acknowledgement of the shutdown by Israeli forces. The Israeli military did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the Associated Press.
Al Jazeera denounced the move as it continued broadcasting live from Amman in neighbouring Jordan.

The move is the latest Israeli action against Al Jazeera. Last week, Israel’s government announced it was revoking the press credentials of Al Jazeera journalists in the country, four months after banning the channel from operating inside Israel.

In a statement, the Palestinian Journalists’ Syndicate condemned the Israeli move, saying “this arbitrary military decision is considered a new violation against journalistic and media works, which has been exposing the occupation’s crimes against the Palestinian people.

Israel shuts down local Al Jazeera offices in ‘dark day for the media’

“We affirm our full solidarity with Al Jazeera and place our headquarters and capabilities at the service of our colleagues working there”.

In Hamas-run Gaza, the government media office condemned the move in a statement released on Telegram, Al Jazeera reported, calling it a clear violation of international law.
“We call on all media outlets and journalists around the world to declare full solidarity with Al Jazeera,” it added.

The Israeli military has repeatedly accused journalists from the Qatari network of being “terrorist agents” in Gaza affiliated with Hamas or its ally, Islamic Jihad.
Al Jazeera denies the Israeli government’s accusations and claims that Israel systematically targets its employees in the Gaza Strip.

Who am I introducing next? President Biden goofs up again

There was a brief commotion when, during the Quad Summit's Cancer Moonshot program, President Joe Biden forgot to introduce Prime Minister Modi.

Video of the Quad summit has gone viral on social media, as US President Joe Biden forgot Indian PM Narendra's Modi name, triggering a meme festival.

US President Joe Biden hosted the leaders of Australia, India and Japan for a Quad alliance gathering on Saturday at Wilmington, Delaware.

I’m pleased that you were able to be in my home, and, and see where I grew up," Biden said in remarks at the opening of the gathering.

There was a brief commotion when during the Quad Summit's Cancer Moonshot program, President Joe Biden forgot to introduce Prime Minister Modi, sparking a controversy.

In the video, Biden is heard wondering, 'Who am I introducing next?' The Prime Minister of India then proceeded to the stage, where an announcer introduced him.

Joe Biden has made news on multiple occasions for 'freezing up' in public or entirely forgetting his speech. Concerns about his health and competence arose earlier this year following a catastrophic presidential election debate with Donald Trump. Biden finally slid out of the polls, making space for Kamala Harris.

Earlier in July, the President inadvertently referred to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy as his fighting Russian counterpart during an inaugural speech.

Turning to Zelenskyy, Biden said, "Ladies and gentlemen, President Putin."

Biden then swiftly corrected himself, as Zelenskyy, stated, "I am better than Putin."

Israel conducts intense bombardment in Lebanon, hits 290 Hezbollah targets

Israel said it struck around 290 targets, including thousands of Hezbollah rocket launcher barrels. Hezbollah, however, claimed that it struck an Israeli airbase due to "repeated Israeli attacks on Lebanon".

    • Israel Army said it hit 290 targets, destroying rocket launchers
    • Hezbollah said it targeted Israeli airbase with dozens of missiles
    • 16 Hezbollah members killed after Israel's attack on Beirut
Israel and Lebanon exchanged heavy fire into Sunday, with Israeli warplanes carrying out the most intense bombardment in almost a year of war across Lebanon's south, while Hezbollah claimed rocket attacks on military targets in Israel's north.

The Israeli military said it struck around 290 targets on Saturday, including thousands of Hezbollah rocket launcher barrels and said it would continue to strike targets of the Iran-backed movement.

Israel closed schools and restricted gatherings in many northern areas of the country and the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights early on Sunday.

Sirens sounded all night as multiple rockets and missiles were fired from Lebanon and Iraq, most of which were intercepted by Israeli aerial defence systems, the military said.

Israeli media reported that a number of buildings were hit directly or by falling missile debris, and ambulance services said they treated some lightly injured people. No serious casualties were reported.

Hezbollah said it targeted the Israeli Ramat David Airbase with dozens of missiles in response to "repeated Israeli attacks on Lebanon", the group posted on its Telegram channel early on Sunday.

The successive barrages of rocket attacks launched by Hezbollah at Ramat David are the deepest strikes it has claimed since hostilities began.

Iran-backed Iraqi militants in a statement also claimed an explosive drone attack on Israel early on Sunday.

    ESCALATING ATTACKS
The escalating attacks come less than 48 hours after an Israeli airstrike targeting Hezbollah commanders killed at least 37 people in a suburb of the Lebanese capital, according to authorities.

Hezbollah, a powerful Iran-backed group, said 16 members including senior leader Ibrahim Aqil and another commander, Ahmed Wahbi, were among those killed on Friday in the deadliest strike in nearly a year of conflict with Israel.

Israel's army said it hit an underground gathering of Aqil and leaders of Hezbollah's elite Radwan forces, and had almost completely dismantled its military chain of command.

The attack levelled a multi-story residential building in the crowded suburb and damaged a nursery next door, a security source said. Three children and seven women were among those killed, according to Lebanon's health ministry.

Friday's strike sharply escalated the conflict and inflicted another blow on Hezbollah after two days of attacks in which pagers and walkie-talkies used by its members exploded.

The death toll in those attacks, widely believed to have been carried out by Israel, has risen to 39 with more than 3,000 injured. Israel has neither confirmed nor denied involvement.

In what it said was the initial retaliation for the attacks with the exploding devices, Hezbollah on Sunday posted on its Telegram channel that it had launched rockets at Israeli military-industry facilities.

U.S. national security adviser Jake Sullivan said he was worried about escalation but that the Israeli killing of a top Hezbollah leader brought justice to the group, which Washington designates terrorists.

"While the risk of escalation is real, we actually believe there is also a distinct avenue to getting to a cessation of hostilities and a durable solution that makes people on both sides of the border feel secure," Sullivan told reporters.

Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati cancelled a planned trip to the U.N. General Assembly in New York.

    ISRAEL BRACES FOR RETALIATION
Hezbollah has said it would keep fighting Israel until it agrees to a ceasefire in its war against Hamas in the Palestinian enclave of Gaza - triggered by a Hamas-led rampage in southern Israel on Oct. 7.

U.S. officials say that is unlikely anytime soon. Israel wants Hezbollah to cease fire and withdraw forces from the border region, adhering to a U.N. resolution signed with Israel in 2006, irrespective of any Gaza deal.

Anticipating retaliation, the Israeli military restricted gatherings and raised the alert level for residents of northern communities. The alert went as far south as the coastal city of Haifa, signalling Israel thought Hezbollah could strike deeper than it had since the war with Hamas began.

In southern Lebanon on Saturday, people described huge explosions that lit up the night sky and shook the ground as Israel carried out its latest strikes.

Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant, who said last week Israel was launching a new phase of war on the northern border, posted on X: "The sequence of actions in the new phase will continue until our goal is achieved: the safe return of the residents of the north to their homes."

Tens of thousands of people have left their homes on both sides of the Israel-Lebanon border since Hezbollah began firing rockets at Israel in October in sympathy with Palestinians in Gaza.

A communique from a U.S. summit hosted by President Joe Biden with the leaders of Japan, India and Australia stressed the need to prevent the Gaza war "from escalating and spilling over in the region" but did not specifically mention the Israel-Hezbollah conflict.

With at least 70 people killed in Lebanon over the past week, the conflict toll in the country since October has surpassed 740 during the worst Israel-Hezbollah flare-up since a 2006 war.
