Part of the military aid package will go to an Israeli army unit accused of serious rights abuses of Palestinians in the occupied West Bank.

The United States will send an additional $3.5bn to Israel to spend on US-made weapons and military equipment, the Department of State has said, as the deadly war in Gaza continues into its 10th month and amid claims of widespread Israeli military abuses in the occupied Palestinian territory.

A State Department spokesperson said on Friday that the department had notified Congress on Thursday that the Biden administration intended to release billions of dollars worth of foreign military financing to Israel.

Biden will not let ’extremists’ push Gaza talks off course, White House says

WASHINGTON, - The Biden administration will not allow "extremists," including in Israel, to push Gaza ceasefire talks off course, White House national security spokesperson John Kirby said on Friday and accused Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich of making false claims.

Kirby said that Smotrich's claims that a ceasefire deal would be a surrender to Hamas or that hostages should not be exchanged for prisoners are "dead wrong," and said the minister was misleading the Israeli public.

The United States and its allies have been trying to arrange a ceasefire-for-hostages deal for months but have consistently run into obstacles from both Israel and Hamas.

U.S. officials believed the latest proposal is the closest the parties have been to an agreement to free women, sick and elderly hostages held by Hamas in Gaza since Oct. 7 in exchange for at least six weeks of ceasefire.

"We want to get a deal. We believe that it's possible to do that ... But it's going to require some leadership on all sides here and some compromises," Kirby told reporters.

Leaders of the United States, Egypt and Qatar on Thursday called on Israel and Hamas to meet for negotiations on Aug. 15 to finalize a Gaza ceasefire and hostage-release deal.

The three countries, which have been trying to mediate a deal, said in a joint statement the talks could take place next week in either Doha or Cairo.

Kirby said some critics like Smotrich have claimed that the hostage deal is "a surrender to Hamas or that hostages should not be exchanged for prisoners" and that the war should go on indefinitely.

"His arguments are dead wrong," said Kirby.

My bet is all the hostages are dead, mostly from 'friendly' fire.
But Hamas are not going to let the cat out of the bag, hoping to draw out the suffering of the hostage families.

Best place to hide the hostages is in a school or hospital, they're sure to be bombed by trigger happy IDF.

Seeing all the previous Pallywood fabrications by the Hamas Health Ministry, I am more inclined to believe the IDF information about this strike against the terrorists. Especially in view of the video that has come out showing Hamas doctoring the school complex mosque building that was struck after the fact with children's toys, etc. to make propaganda clips about women and children bring martyrs.

Gaza reports scores dead in Israeli strike, Israel says it hit militants

In a statement in Hebrew the Israeli military said the death toll was inflated. It said around 20 Hamas and Islamic Jihad militants were operating at the site.

“The compound, and the mosque that was struck within it, served as an active Hamas and Islamic Jihad military facility,” Lieutenant Colonel Nadav Shoshani said on X.

“According to an initial review, the numbers published by the Hamas-run Government Information Office in Gaza, do not align with the information held by the IDF (Israel Defence Forces), the precise munitions used, and the accuracy of the strike,” Shoshani said.
