I will readily admit 'Over the past year, Israel’s far-right government has ramped up settlement construction in the occupied West Bank. Israeli settler violence has displaced hundreds of Palestinians there, and tensions have flared around the Al-Aqsa mosque, a flashpoint Jerusalem holy site'. These actions -- supported by the right-wing Netanyahu Israeli government are not helpful whatsoever in arriving at a solution to the decades long conflict.

However -- as I outlined earlier -- the first step in the process at this point is totally eliminating Hamas in Gaza. Hamas took over Gaza by force evicting the Palestinian National Authority - which is the legitimate government authority for the West Bank and Gaza. Hamas, a terrorist group, needs to be eliminated in Gaza and control returned to the Palestinian National Authority.

The second step in making progress will need to be the election of a more moderate government in Israel. The Netanyahu government will be happy to eliminate Hamas with an all out war; however they are not really interested in making progress to a lasting peace between Palestinians and Israel in the region.

Hamas kidnap, Israel imprisons millions. Two wrongs are two wrongs.

According to a 2019 poll by the Pew Research Center, 56% of Israeli Jews support annexing the West Bank, but only 39% support annexing the Gaza Strip.

Sometimes one side just has to win. It may be the only humane solution is to relocate the Palestinians to Iran or other. They have no life, I've spoken to people who grew up in the Gaza strip and it's a hellish place of no hope.

The settler movement want the whole place and and if it take a century or more, they plan to have it.

You speak the truth. In the past I have speculated if the actual end-game in the region will be forcing all the Palestinians in Gaza into Egypt and all the Palestinians in the West Bank into the neighboring countries. However if done on the spur of the moment this would be a huge humanitarian crisis where the nearby countries would not be able to support all the incoming people.

On top of this would be the unfairness to all the Palestinians who would lose their homes.

These places -- especially Gaza under Hamas -- are places without hope. The hope in Gaza will only come when Hamas is eliminated and replaced with the Palestinian National Authority.

In big picture reflection -- I am hopeful an accommodation can be reached that allow the Israelis and Palestinians to live side-by-side in peace, in conditions where Gaza (and the West Bank) are effectively self-governing regions/nations rather than "large scale prisons". But as every year goes by this hope seems to fade more and more.

I recognize that a large portion of the Israeli population -- after decades of terrorism and no peace progress -- support annexing both the West Bank and Gaza while pushing out the current populations. I can understand where this mindset comes from -- especially in view of the need for more land for Israelis as the population grows, etc. However pursuing this direction will certainly lead to more conflict rather than any type of peace.

I will note that Israel puts terrorists in prison -- or Palestinians they claim are terrorists. The number in actual Israeli prisons is not in the millions. The number today is a mere 5200 (note this is an good article covering the situation regarding the imprisonment of Palestinian men by Israel). Most are Hamas members.

Over time the settlers will take advantage of civilised behaviour to change the rules and take more land until they have evicted or killed enough that they are pleasurably non-threatening.

So, evaluating the assets and moving two million people. Not that hard. It's ethnic cleansing for Jesus to return etc. That's Gaza sorted.

Then similar in the West Bank, 3 million.

Of course a lot of decent Jews will also leave in disgust. Once the hostages are out that have prevented Iran and others from pasting them, Israel will have to deal with being very small and loads of nukes pointed at it but cross that bridge eh?

But Trump told us Jared Kushner's 'Vision For Peace' had already solved the Israeli and Palestinian problem and brought peace to the region.

    Shireen Abu Akleh (WIKI)

Shireen Abu Akleh[a] (Arabic: شيرين أبو عاقلة, romanized: Šīrīn Abū ʿĀqle; April 3, 1971 – May 11, 2022) was a prominent Palestinian-American journalist who worked as a reporter for the Arabic-language channel Al Jazeera for 25 years, before being shot dead by an Israeli soldier while covering a raid on the Jenin Refugee Camp in the West Bank. Abu Akleh was one of the most prominent names across the Middle East for her decades of reporting in the Israeli-occupied Palestinian territories, and as a leading journalist in the Arab world, she was seen as a role model for many aspiring Palestinian and Arab journalists, particularly women.

Known for Coverage of the Israeli–Palestinian conflict
    Relatives Lina Abu Akleh (niece)
On 11 May 2022, while wearing a blue press vest covering an Israeli raid on the Jenin Refugee camp in the West Bank, Abu Akleh was shot and killed. Israel denied responsibility for her death and blamed Palestinian militants, despite initial reports by her colleagues accusing Israeli soldiers. Israel later claimed it was possible she had been killed by either side, and on 5 September, admitted it was likely she was "accidentally" hit by its forces, but refused to undertake a criminal investigation. The admission came after investigations conducted by international news outlets, including The New York Times and The Washington Post concluded that she was killed by Israeli forces, with CNN finding that her death was the result of a targeted Israeli killing. Investigations by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and US State Department also found Israel responsible. Forensic Architecture refuted Israel's findings on 20 September, and said Abu Akleh was deliberately targeted and denied medical aid. In November 2022, the US Department of Justice opened an investigation into the killing, a move that Israel condemned and refused to cooperate with. The journalist's niece Lina Abu Akleh has since been demanding the Israeli soldier responsible be held accountable.

The manner of her death and the subsequent violent disruption of her funeral drew widespread international condemnation of Israel. During the funeral, Israeli Police officers attacked pallbearers who were carrying her coffin from the Saint Joseph Hospital in East Jerusalem with batons and stun grenades. The hospital itself was stormed by Israeli police who hit, shoved, and trampled on patients, threw stun grenades, wounding and causing burns to medical staff. The facility issued a statement from the Christian Churches of the Holy Land, representing 15 denominations, stating that the Israeli police's actions constituted "invasion and disproportionate use of force ... (and) a severe violation of international norms and regulations, including the fundamental right of freedom of religion." Her funeral was attended by tens of thousands of Palestinians carrying flags and chanting nationalist songs. It is believed to have been the largest Palestinian funeral in Jerusalem in over twenty years.

There was a ET thread about it here....

I've traveled a lot, a fair bit of backpacking, often with my daughter as she grew and a lot solo.

I have chatted with countless young Israelis when they are sent off after their service year or two. They want for the most part to get a job, a home and a family. Normal. They see a few sights, smoke way too much weed, take over the hostel kitchen cooking to save money but generous enough to offer very often.

But then there are the right wingers.

They like to chat and get into Ireland terrorism V Palestinian etc. But.. Sooner or later, usually sooner they start to exaggerate and make stuff up (as good as true stories) and eventually speak in absolutes.
