Israel’s seizure of Rafah border crossing was a ‘red line’ for Egypt
Tamer Qarmout, assistant professor of public policy at the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies, also spoke to Al Jazeera about Egypt joining South Africa’s genocide case against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

He said the relationship between Egypt and Israel is “very sensitive”, considering they have fought wars in the past and signed a peace treaty.

Egypt had wanted to maintain its position as a mediator in the ceasefire negotiations, so it had “played along” with the US’s approach to Israel’s war on Gaza, he said.

However, now Egypt has reached a point where it understands the situation in Gaza is “out of control”, and they cannot trust the United States or the Israelis, Qarmout said.

The Rafah corridor is a “red line” for the Egyptians, he said, adding the fact that Israeli tanks are on the border is a violation of the Camp David peace accords.

The Egyptians, Qarmout noted, are worried now that Israel will push Palestinian civilians into the Sinai Peninsula.

Rules mean nothing to Israel. Totally out of control, shoot at anything which moves.
    Nation of psychopaths.
I'm expecting to hear soon Israelis shooting at each other as law and order dissolves.

So sad. Egypt is upset about Israel closing the Rafah crossing. Now the Egyptian security services can no longer funnel weapons and munitions to Hamas via the crossing in order to destabilize their neighbor, Israel. This is especially pertinent in view that the recent Hamas rocket attacks, including those on other humanitarian aid crossings, involved rockets containing recently manufactured components. There is only one route where these rockets could enter Gaza from.

In my opinion, Israel taking over the Rafah crossing is long overdue. Egypt can not longer pretend to be campaigning for peace while shipping arms & munitions to terrorists -- playing both sides of the street. It would serve Egypt right if Israel simply tore down the border fence and sent the Palestinians over to Sinai -- but this would not really serve well for future peace in the region with an eventual two-state solution.

Looks like the Palestinian Authority does not want to take over the Rafah border crossing either. This is hardly surprising since the Palestinian Authority had previously stated they would have nothing to do with administering Gaza until Hamas was completely eliminated. After all, Hamas has been killing supporters of the Palestinian Authority since 2005 -- and recently Hamas and Islamic Jihad extended their murderous campaign to killing Palestinian Authority members in the West Bank which Palestinian Authority security services responded to by taking out the militants.

This is your reminder that since 2005 Hamas has killed more Palestinians in Gaza than the IDF. Hamas brutally tortured and murdered most of the victims after spending countless hours spying on them. The least bit of dissent would cause Hamas to brutally torture and/or murder a resident of Gaza.

Secret files show Hamas worked to quash dissent, leaving Palestinians between a repressive security force and a crippling Israeli blockade.

People landed in security files for attending protests, publicly criticizing Hamas, or, in some cases, carrying on romantic relationships outside marriage.

Comparing Israel’s war on Gaza to the US atomic bombings of Japan during World War II, US Senator Lindsey Graham argued on Sunday that Israel should do whatever it has to do.

US calls on Iran to halt `unprecedented’ weapons transfers to Yemen’s Houthis for attacks on ships

UNITED NATIONS (AP) — The United States called on Iran on Monday to halt its transfer of an “unprecedented” amount of weaponry to Yemen’s Houthi rebels, enabling its fighters to carry out “reckless attacks” on ships in the Red Sea and elsewhere.

U.S. deputy ambassador Robert Wood told the U.N. Security Council that if it wants to make progress toward ending the civil war in Yemen it must act collectively to “call Iran out for its destabilizing role and insist that it cannot hide behind the Houthis.”

He said there is extensive evidence that Iran is providing advanced weapons, including ballistic and cruise missiles, to the Houthis in violation of U.N. sanctions.

“To underscore the council’s concern regarding the ongoing violations of the arms embargo, we must do more to strengthen enforcement and deter sanctions violators,” Wood said.

The Houthis say their attacks on shipping in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden are aimed at pressuring Israel to end its war with Hamas in Gaza, which has killed more than 35,000 Palestinians there. The war began after Hamas-led militants attacked Israel on Oct. 7, killing 1,200 people and taking some 250 others hostage.
