Microsoft outlined this change in policy months ago -- before the Gaza war even broke out. Now it is being implemented on Instagram and Threads. You can see the posts on Threads by Adam Mosseri (head of Instagram and Threads at Microsoft) over the past months outlining this policy to not recommend political posts on either platform. Now it is finally being put in place. This change in policy will reduce election interference by bots by eliminating the promotion of these posts. You will need to follow a political commentator to see their posts. From my perspective this change of policy is a net win.
