At least we will now know who the terrorist supporters are. Of course, all these terrorist supporters are aligned with the Democratic Socialists of America party of AOC and the Squad.

Pro-Palestinian protesters blame Israel for Hamas terror attack in 'repugnant' demonstrations
NY Gov Kathy Hochul blasted rally as 'abhorrent and morally repugnant'
    https://www.foxnews.com/us/pro-pale...-hamas-terror-attack-repugnant-demonstrations

Hundreds of protesters turned out in New York City on Sunday to support the Palestinians after an attack by Hamas on Israel over the weekend.

Hamas terrorists launched thousands of missiles at Israel and invaded towns along the Gaza border on Saturday, killing at least 700 people and wounding thousands more and prompting Israel to declare war against the Iran-backed group.

The protest, organized by the Democratic Socialists of America – a group that boasts six members of the U.S. House of Representatives, including members of "the Squad" – took place in Times Square and then advanced down 42nd Street to Bryant Park, close to the Israeli Consulate.

The DSA laid the blame for the attack at Israel’s feet, tweeting out as part of the announcement: "Today’s events are a direct result of Israel’s apartheid regime – a regime that receives billions in funding from the United States."

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul condemned the rally ahead of its start, saying that the "people of Israel are facing violent terrorist attacks and civilian kidnappings" and blasting the rally as "abhorrent and morally repugnant."

Hundreds marched through the city’s midtown area, with many chanting, "From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free" – a chant that the Anti-Defamation League notes can be understood as a call for the elimination of Israel. Hamas and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine often use the chant as an anti-Israel rallying cry.

The protesters carried signs that called for an end to U.S. aid to Israel and argued that "Resistance is justified when people are occupied."

Police arrested some of the demonstrators, although it was unclear on what grounds they did so. Video showed police taking away a few individuals who did not resist arrest.

The protest prompted a counter-protest from Israel supporters, who police separated from the pro-Palestinian protesters with barriers and roads where possible. The opposing groups lined 42nd Street as they chanted at each other, at times hurling insults and yelling directly at the other side.

This thread is titled "Yawn....... Israel attacked by Hamas".

This is hardly a "yawn" moment for Israel; this is their 9/11 equivalent. And their response will be vigorous.

We can endlessly debate the past decades of history in the Israel/Palestinian conflict which effectively will not really be enlightening but merely an effort to rehash the past and push blame.

What is of more interest is what will occur next over the upcoming weeks in this conflict. It does lead to many questions including:
    1. What are the next steps that Israel take for an incursion into Gaza? The current steps of using air power to target rocket launchers, ammo, and the headquarters/homes of Hamas leaders are obvious. The announced step of shutting off the borders and not allowing fuel, food, and electricity into Gaza -- effectively creating a siege is obvious. But what is next after this?
    2. At this point both Hamas and Hezbollah have announced that Iran provided the planning and support for this attack. What military force can Israel dedicate to Gaza operations and still have sufficient military force in the north to deal with a possible attack by Hezbollah?
    3. Netanyahu stated this would be a long war. Will Israel need to call up it's military reserves for this conflict?
    4. Israel generally has a policy of not negotiating for hostages. A good number of the hostages are citizens of other countries (many who do not hold Israeli dual citizenships). Under pressure from other countries will Israel open negotiations to get hostages back who are citizens of other nations plus possibly elderly and children? If not most of these hostages are as good as dead already.
    5. An armed excursion into Gaza will cause thousands of civilian casualties. What steps will Israel use to minimize these casualties besides telling Gaza residents to leave certain areas?
    6. Will Israel adopt a strategy at some point to shove all 2 million residents of Gaza over the border into Israel -- creating a huge refuge crisis?
    7. Iran is obviously behind the Hamas terrorist attack. Does Israel have plans to retaliate against Iran directly?
    8. What is Israel's desired end game over the next few weeks? Beyond retaliation and dead Hamas members.

And off he goes.he will be peaking at Fox all day too.

What's going on is horrifically wrong and still the only people I feel especially sorry for are the poor Thai workers who are stuck in the middle.

Looking back last night at discussions about moving the whole population to the West Bank which has come up several times as far back as 1967. There have even been proposals to create artificial islands in the Mediterranean..

It seems that a stumbling block is that Palestinian politicians insist that if they did move, Israel can't have the strip for itself and unsurprisingly the Israelis don't want this restriction or any of the cost involved in the plan. Also they want the West Bank.

Edit:added the map as it well explains why moving them to the West Bank stopped being much of an option after the 60's/70s. There are a lot of maps of course.

    The most recent developments...

It appears that the conflict has been expanded to the north with Israel taking on Hezbollah in Lebanon at the border.

Israeli forces say its helicopters are currently striking in Lebanese territory

Looks like some steps may be underway to negotiate for the release of hostages.

Israel festival revelers shot at point-blank range, video shows
    https://www.cnn.com/2023/10/09/middleeast/israel-hamas-music-festival-aftermath-intl-hnk/index.html

Gaza militants who attacked an all-night music festival in southern Israel shot and killed revelers at point-blank range, then looted their belongings, new car dashcam video verified by CNN reveals.

The video began circulating on social media on Sunday and – alongside footage of harrowing kidnappings from the same event – has been scrutinized by horrified families desperate for news of loved ones missing since a series of coordinated attacks triggered Israel’s declaration of war on Sunday.

Israeli officials counted at least 260 bodies near the site of the Nova festival, outside Re’im, where earlier footage showed carefree partygoers from Israel and overseas dancing in the desert soon after sunrise on Saturday.

Some survivors are among more than 100 hostages that the militant group Hamas claims to be holding in Gaza, according to friends and family members who have seen them in videos shared on social platforms.

The dashcam video verified by CNN gives a glimpse of the terror as militants took over the festival, preventing some partygoers from leaving with deadly force.

The first clip, begins at 9:23 a.m. according to its timecode, just under three hours after the first explosions were reported at the Nova festival.

The video has no audio, but a militant is seen yelling, then pointing his machine gun at a man taking cover next to the car. It’s unclear if the gunman is firing a warning shot, or if he’s just shot and injured the civilian, who is then seen being led away. His fate is unknown.

A second individual is seen in the video lying on the ground at the back of another car. The person begins to move and suddenly another militant appears on screen, aims at the person, fires and walks away. The person on the ground stops moving.

Another video from the dashcam, timestamped at 12:09 p.m., shows two militants approach the body of the second individual. They rifle through the person’s pockets, and one picks something off the body and puts it into his own back pocket.

Less than three minutes later, militants grab a woman out of the back of the car. She is led away, and the militants begin to open another car’s trunk and empty a suitcase on the ground to be pilfered.

The video picks up at 12:14 p.m., with the captured woman running back into view. Her hands in the air, she appears to be waving toward the festival grounds.

Dirt and dust are seen flying as bullets hit the ground around her. Next to the emptied suitcase and open trunk, she takes cover again. Her fate is unknown.

    Families search for missing children
Ricarda Louk last saw her daughter Shani lying face down in the back of a pickup truck heading to the Gaza Strip, an isolated coastal enclave of almost 2 million people crammed into 140 square miles.

This is a well presented brief & factual primer.

I'd forgotten myself that the settlers had their mitzvas into the West bank as well until the government yoinked them.
