As i mentioned previously -- a two step solution is required for progress towards peace and two state solution. The first step is the complete elimination of Hamas as a military and governing entity in Gaza. The second step is negotiations in good faith towards a two state solution that will lead to peace. The Netanyahu government has no plans to negotiate towards a two state solution -- in fact they pretty much have announced that they don't see this in the future. While also mentioning that Netanyahu and his cohorts supported Hamas previously only because it would undermine any possibility of a two state solution being implemented. The U.S. is the only country with any type of reasonable leverage with Israel which could urge Natanyahu to leave office when the war in Gaza is finished and potentially support a more moderate government being put in place in Israel which would focus on implementing a two state solution. Of course, Netayahu could follow through on the previous talking points of his government and simply push all the Palestinians out of the West Bank and Gaza. This would create a huge humanitarian catastrophe in neighboring countries and ensure that decades of future terrorism face Israel and others around the world.
