Search would "never" have yielded the correct plan in this position. My guess is that IBM's DB would have found the correct plan, based not on its incredible lookahead search, but based on the "understanding" that the Grandmasters programed into it. I am not certain, but I am pretty sure that DB blue's positional "understanding" far surpases any other program, then or now. nitro
