X-Trader with no monthly fee! New Transactional Model.

Discussion in 'Events' started by Richard_Gfetc, Jan 23, 2006.

  1. You should be able to get just below $4.00 for the smaller retail account (and you would have to pay the XTrader monthly fee). You will have to check with them to see if they do the transactional model....not sure.

  4. I reviewed the press releases on X_STUDY and it does not appear to have any capability for building your own indicators, or alerts or strategies. Is that correct ?
Sheesh...at minimal it should have the ability to link into custom DLL's for instance.

This was in response to a reader who asked what the difference is between J Trader and X Trader.

THIS ANSWER IS WRONG WRONG WRONG!!

X Trader is not faster than J Trader. It only gives the illusion of this.

J Trader has 3 different order states, where as X Trader only has 1 (working). This means that you may send an order with X Trader and get the impression it is working at the exchange, when in fact it may be stuck somewhere. This is pretty risky.

The bottom line is that X Trader may show an order as working quicker than J Trader, giving the impression it is quicker, but in reality it aint!

Another mistake made by Global Futures. I wouldn't touch 'em with a barge pole - they dont even know the difference between the platforms they offer.

Dorman Direct does not use a PATS server, but rather a CTS server which is
comparable to the TT software. Dorman Direct is fast and efficient and has
been built from the bottomo up less than three years ago.

Any comment from experienced operator welcome .

    Paprika,

I realize that this is a very late response, but someone PM'ed me to respond to this post.

I now have access to three feeds: IB through the internet, TT with a T3 direct line to Goldman Sachs and they have a direct connection to the MERC, and Activ Financial feed through the internet.

What I have noticed so far is that, on FED day, the TT feed was crushing the other two feeds. Before you get all happy that I am wrong, note that we are not comparing apples to apples here, as we are comparing a Feed that is running PTP essentially to the MERC floor, against two other feeds that are running over 15 hops over the internet. We may soon change Activ to a PTP, but until then, I can't give a scientific answer.

The pricing model may well be worth it if you do any kind of size, even after the montly fees to TT. IBs retail futures rates suck imo, and if you can get another software that is at least as stable, with a feed that is at least as good, and if you are a volume trader you get better rates, then I see where you are going with your argument that TT is at least as good if not better than IB etc.

I am not disagreeing with you. But you have to compare apples to apples. Most people are not very careful when comparing things. They see a package and say it is better than another package, when they don't even realize the many pieces that comprise that package. I bet you a million dollars you put IBs feed on a PTP line to the MERC, talk to their sales dept and tell them that you do 1000 RTs a day so that they are sending you every tick on the feed, and I am 99% certain that you won't find any differences between TT and IB insofar as speed of fills and speed of the data feed.

The reason is in the defaults. TT assumes you are professional trader and advertises it's rates based on what they know you will need. IB caters to the retail trader and advertises that and charges accordingly. But if you go behind the retail arm of IB and tell them you are a pro trader, commit to a PTP line, do 1000 RTs a day, there are no differences in experience except that one ladder is sideways and the other is up and down. You get what you pay for.

When we get Activ's feeds on a PTP line, we will see...

  10. x-trader + Global is stable with great tech staff behind, only thing what upset me time to time is that the x-trader balance is not same as in RCG account statement, however,Global staff is able to fix it on request very fast.

discuss if is x-trader better than other platforms is wasted time...
