X-Trader problems

  1. Chisel,

In the past, I have experienced similar issues with X-trader on 2 occassions.

    Tried everything in the book.

Spoke to the broker (I think each time it was a different broker).

As usual -- no problems on their end -- must be something with you?

    Very frustrating.

In the end, each time, the problem simply resolved itself?

My guess: Either the broker did discover an issue, and fixed it. Or the problem was from my ISP, and they fixed it.

Why I think first is more likely than second: I had no other issues at the time with web, email, charting, or brokerage software on a different platform.

Had an almost identical scenario once with J-trader too.

Sometimes it's hard to get brokers to isolate a problem, especially if you're not a BIG customer.

Be patient, and let me know if the problem self-resolves. I'm willing to bet it's nothing on your end.

I inquired with the clearing firms and there doesn't seem to have been any problem that affected eCBOT this moring, just issues with CME. Whatever problems you had with eCBOT don't appear to be exchange related. If you have an account with us I recommend contacting our technical support so they can look into it. Or try contacting the CBOT # that was posted earlier.

    Regards,

    Hofferino,

Thanks for your post. Here's what I've found: I have 2 computers each with its own ISP. My usual trading computer uses a cable internet connection and my charting computer uses BellSouth DSL. I NEVER have a problem getting X-Trader running via the BellSouth connection, but via cable internet Guardian will not connect from about 4pm to midnight (this varies, but it's pretty consistent + or - an hour or so). Even though my cable internet connection is the one I've traded on using Xtrader for the past several years, the trouble just started about a month ago.

I've talked to my cable ISP's tech support and to my clearing firm. The ISP tech support said to run a tracert to the IP I'm trying to reach and all was fine...it didn't stop until it was outside of the ISP's network, but my clearing firm said Guardian uses multi-cast routing (or something like that) and running a successful tracert wouldn't necessarily prove anything.

To sum: Guardian will not connect thru my cable ISP during certain times which are consistent day to day. I am waiting to hear from my clearing firm's super-duper tech guy.

  5. I had a problem this morning when we hit heavy volume, when Bernie was speaking, on Ninja with Zen Fire. It may have been a volume issue. That's my pennies worth. Still it should not happen period. Upgrade you freakin servers and increase bandwidth, you thieves charge all of us enough.

  6. What is it with X-Trader 7? What is it with X-study, the charting?

Why are these not out? if they were trashed, just say so.

I mean this is worse than microsoft coming out with Vista.

Chinese probably been running all of these products for months now......:)

  7. X-Trader should almost always be working...check with your broker, and if they dont have dedicated TT techs...they suck, there is too much to TT...for some broker to deal with usually.

In terms of upgrading and doing more for clients and all the money they make from clients...its not as profitable as many think...sure TT is rich...but the clearing firms hesitate to spend so much money on upgrading the infrastructure...a basic TT setup is over a million dollars, hell even the basic x-risk...so they can have some oversight on your trading...costs 800 per user per month...thats why few FCMs actually offer TT. Many dont want the high fixed costs in terms of hardware, support and bandwidth...along with the added high risk off tt users (since xrisk sucks) and xtrader guys can go major debit FAST...so the pool of tt firms isnt exactly growing....remember you get what you pay for...Serious traders usually pay more in commissions than most of the wannabe cheapo traders who have never made a winning month of profits...but they still expect hedge fund rates.

Just my perspective consulting on the network architecture of these systems from a consulting job Ive done.

  8. Todays TT problem : You should be able to collect log files to a zip file and email it to TT or your brokers tech support so they can tell you what happened...and hopefully fix it so it doesn't happen again.

cable modem: If your only having problems with the cable modem from 4pm to midnight it's probably a bandwidth issue. During the day most home users are at work. They come home in the evening and start downloading porn, music, etc and it clogs the bandwidth.

Cable Bandwidth is shared, DSL is not.

Volume for 9 am to 10 am I believe was a record for the CME and looks to have overloaded their servers. I looked at minute data back to Nov. 05 and it was basically 2-3x normal. 4/18 and 4/20 also richter.
