  3. Yes, almost certainly the NATO/US electronic surveillance isn’t even primarily to inform attacks on RF during the SMO, rather it’s to capture and analyse/mine every scrap of electromagnetic data on Russia’s integrated “warfare complex”: ships, subs, aircraft, missiles, air/sea/land defense, tanks, drones, artillery, C&C, anything and everything that gets used.

The electromagnetic signature of RF systems could conceivably be used to design automated target acquisition profiles for loitering-type munitions, at the very least it will surely make them much easier to identify with existing NATO capabilities.

Hypersonics have been revealed because they can take out heavily defended targets and, crucially, seeing them used in anger probably doesn’t make them noticeably easier to counter. RF might also have hoped for a deterring effect but they west is crazy, so no dice yet.

Putin’s already said out loud that there are previously unseen weapons in reserve, ready to be used, with the obvious implication that, if used, their impact would be decisive.

This clearly seems to be part of a general RF strategy of keeping the SMO as low tech as possible, even at the expense of RF casualties, in order to preserve the effectiveness of a whole range of systems (i.e. not just just super weapons) whose use would only accompany a significant escalation, such as direct NATO/US engagement.

What we’re seeing so far might be a kind of Phoney War but with real shooting ... a kind of musket showdown with a few modern weapons used where they can have the greatest effect and whose use is least likely to prejudice a serious shooting war.

  7. The Art of Disinformation–Western Lies About the War in Ukraine

US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin spoke with his Russian counterpart for the first time since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the Pentagon announced on Friday.

The call lasted approximately an hour and was at the request of Austin, who used the first call between the two in 84 days to urge Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu to implement an “immediate ceasefire,” according to a brief readout of the call. The two last spoke on February 18, a week before Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine.

If Russia was losing or completely stuck in Ukraine, one would expect that Sergei Shoigu would be the guy calling Austin and begging for mercy. Well, that is not what happened. It was Austin that placed the call, apparently unconcerned about his recent public call to weaken Russia. Why would Austin urge Shoigu to implement an “immediate ceasefire” if Russia was getting its ass kicked? Russia getting whipped by Ukraine is exactly what Austin has called for. Remember?

  8. I doubt Russia would be looking forward to revisiting Kharkov and Kiev any time soon, right?

As far as Russia holding on to recently occupied land, are you really confident they can hold on. After all, the number of ranged weapons available for Ukraine is increasing, while Russia is suffering from attrition and reduced supply lines such as seen with recently destroyed Russian pontoon bridges.

Seemed like Russia has nearly shot its conventional wad allocated to Ukraine, so to speak. As far as Russian propaganda is concerned, there still seems to be plenty of supply avilable for that.
