Most of these banks do not giving a flying fuck if you close your account unless its crazy go nuts huge. I opened an account at fifth third on some sort of money give away, started getting telemarketer calls from them, so I closed it. Their service at my branch sucked eggs anyway. But they didn't even ask me why I was closing it or anything. It felt like they thought they were doing me a favor and I should just STFU and take it.

Kathy, could you provide the name of the financial institution that did this?

It wasn't crazy go nuts huge, but it was 6 figures. Either way, I don't care.

I now use 5/3 and love them. The local branch office in my neighborhood is awesome.

  4. I think the big thing to remember is to never use a bank that has a physical presence or affiliation in aggressive states like CA. I may be wrong, but I believe the FTB or other agencies can't cross state lines and garnish an account in another state without getting a court order in that state...

Thank God I found your post. I was considering changing my accounts from Chase over to BoA. Appearances be damned - I just might do all my banking out of a Credit Union that my father put a few bucks into for me when I was a child.

Grandparents lived through the first depression,* and went to their graves never trusting banks. I always thought it was strange for them to keep so much cash in a lockbox (not even a safe, lol), but now I understand their fears. Am on hold with Wells Fargo as we speak with a similar issue. $6500 I tried to transfer, and they screwed it up so badly, the receiver didn't get it, and I'm on my THIRD DAY of trying to get them to either send it, OR FUCKING GIVE IT BACK TO ME, meaning PUT IT BACK IN MY ACCOUNT, NOT wells fargo's money market account, sitting there earning them $!!!!!!!
Am going this afternoon to close three accounts there if this isn't fixed NOW! To say I understand, is an understatement. Your money was basically stolen. Mine has been held by an 800lb gorilla that won't have my accounts after today.
Do you know of any good ok florida banks that aren't too big?

Well, all I can say is California is beautiful, but they're Nazis when it comes to taxes, and I hope they choke themselves out completely as a result. Hell, Texas and Colorado has already stolen lol, so much CA industry, it's bind boggling. As for the IRS, can imagine they'd need police escorts if anyone even knew one of them was an IRS agent! IRS is PURE Gestapo, and our Founders would flip backwards knowing of their existence. Now just why did the serfs of the UK come here? On yeah, they were taxed too heavily, 10% of their money, or 10% of their crops, not to mention they were persecuted for their Christianity. Now just look at where we are now! Same place, but much, much worse.

Never mind. 5/3 sucks as well. Was their Investment "Executive," after leaving mother Merrill. Total nightmare! And what I saw them doing behind the scenes.
My now ex-father in law almost shot me when he found out I took that position, as both of his then college daughters fell into the 5/3 trap as well. And YES, 5/3 does hold transactions hoping one is enough to overdraw the account, so they can say cha Ching $33 x however many charges were made over that particular weekend. Yes, they should be in prison as we speak! Dirty bastards they are! Looks like I'm headed to a credit union right now.
My advice: if it's a big bank, run like your ass is on fire! And dirty 5/3 tried to separate themselves from the rest of the Charlotte banks by saying, "we're an Ohio bank." Well, whatever. They're still criminals..
