Yes, true. There was nothing else I could do. I still wish I had called in sick that night or whatever. Anything besides being where I was at that that time...

And no, we didn't have tazers back then, nor would a tazer be what I would have taken a chance on going against a gun no matter how crappy that .32 was.

And shortie, I was in the Marine Corps at age 18 in Desert Storm (Enlisted), and became an Officer after College going back to that st&thole again. Yes, I've "been there and done that" in combat. War really is a hell that words cannot describe. I WILL NEVER EVER see that place again! It's a nightmare that I am on a plane, and it "accidently" takes me to, and lands in Baghdad. That one wakes me up along with the images of my Friends who weren't as fortunate as I was...

My shooting a man as a Police Officer still haunts me a little worse than what I did in the sandbox... I don't know exactly why it stands out as being so traumatic, but it just is what it is I guess. I can still hear the crickets chirping between the guy's screaming at me to shoot him. After I fired, I heard no more crickets chirping even though I know they were. I was fixated on what I had just done at a distance of ten feet... That was the only time I had to use my firearm as a Police Officer besides the occasional deer that would be struck on the Interstate, and suffering.

All I was trying to point out earlier is the fact that if you guys are common sense, law-abiding folks who want to protect yourselves and your families from evil people, you have the right to own a firearm, and use it if you have to. There are "side effects" you'll experience if you do ever have to use a firearm to protect yourself. Your chances are very slim that you'll need to resort to shooting a person, but there IS that chance that you may run into a very evil person with very bad intentions for you. The chance is there. My advice is stay out of bad areas of town, steer clear of bars where trouble is known to brew, etc., and use your head. That will give you the best chance of living if you AVOID places where bad things happen more often. i.e., never ignore probabilities... Again, there is that chance of an intrusion into your home, a car jacking, robbed as you walk to your car, from the office, beaten for no reason, etc., That's where a firearm would be necessary. But remember, you're not shooting to kill. You're shooting to live...

Not with a crimson trace lazer. Even a novice could see the red dot, and squeeze the trigger stopping the threat.

ALL of my carry handguns have a lazer sight. My Ar-15 has an optic sight on top, and a strobing light attached to the bottom rail to disorient the person, giving me a chance I don't have to squeeze the trigger.

LEAPup, how the hell did you ever end up on this cesspool known as ET after all that shit? LOL. Now I know why you want to sit between me and Don on a debate. :)

Lol!!!!! I wonder myself how I ended up here at times. Lol! I guess long story short, I was in Washington Dulles airport about to travel to San Diego for quarterly financial advisor training I attended.

I'm in this mess of an airport thinking, "why aren't I trading rather than trying to be a salesperson which I'm really not good at?" I pulled out my blackberry, and found ET. I guess the rest is history. Lol!

I've got to get a laugh at times as I'm a member of a bodybuilding board, the arguing there gets started and guys whine. I sit back and say to myself, "they've never seen arguing until they come to ET.":D

And yes, I'd think it would be a riot to sit between you and Don on a long flight! That I would pay for.:D

I guess after all of the "luck" I've had in the past has put me in a state of mind where I'm into funny stuff. Sure I like to shoot holes in paper targets every now and then, and hoist some heavy weights 5x/week, but comedy is what I like. I'll take funny stuff hands down over drama, action, etc., movies, and I'm known to be the guy in the office who ticks off others who are on the phone as I'm watching funny video clips, and reading jokes at times. At least once a day, someone will throw something into my office as I'm laughing so loud, making so much noise, they can't use their phones.:D

I'm a little dimented I guess, but clips of people falling down in the snow, falling down on perfectly normal sidewalks, etc., tears me to pieces.:D :D (as long as they don't get hurt though.)

    "Quote from shortie:
arming everybody is an example of the typical short-term planning that has ruined US.
ask yourself why US has the most crimes while having some of the most lenient gun laws among civilized countries.
trying to solve a problem with short term patches simply creates more problems down the road."

Ok, that one I'll address. Did you know that in Switzerland, males over the age of 18 are issued a Sig-550 Assualt Rifle? Did you also know that Switzerland has THE lowest amount of violent crime, and THE lowest gun crime on the Globe? Hmmm... I think you have some "splaining" to do if you're going to defend that opinion.

Yes, I know Switzerland taxes people to death, and has their other issues, but you just can't argue this one bro. A Sig-550 in the home + the guy who is trained to use it is at home = no home invasion by any SANE human being. (A home invasion is a burglary committed during the night or day where the occupant(s) are home, and threats, or violence, or both are used by the suspect in order to steal, maim, rape, or kill.)

I also wonder how many home invasions they have in Switzerland versus Washington DC for example, where handguns are outlawed? i.e., the thug KNOWS the people in the house/appartment have NO guns, so what does the thug do? He breaks in, and gets his way because he knows no one will shoot his scumbag ass. In Switzerland, I can't imagine some dumbass commiting a home invasion with a Sig-550 there in the hands of a guy who is trained to use it, and will. That person would have to be really stoned, drunk, and just plain stupid all at the same time. Shortie, I thought you were a little smarter than this...

People that refuse to take the proper steps to accomplish things and then suffer the consequences are not my main concern in life.. I've seen people take a beating because they didn't have a clue about personal defense.. I've seen kids dying on a freeway because their mother didn't bother fastening the seat belts... there are a lot of people with no money because they never studied finance... a lot of people get robbed and fail to stop the robber from robbing people for the rest of his life because they won't arm up, to my way of thinking they are ducking their civic duty toward their neighbors..

  8. an assault rifle stays at home. So this should not create huge problems for somebody who is not invading Swiss houses.

Do they allow hand guns as well? Concealed weapons?

  10. I currently have a concealed pistol permit here in Michigan as does my mother, and many of my aunts and cousins. None of us have had to shoot anyone and we have all undergone training and the required background checks. I first carried a gun while living in Texas and never had to use my weapon while there. In all likelyhood I will go thru most of my life without having to fire a shot in anger, but I am smart enough to know that if I ever need a gun...then I really, really need it. It means that my life or the lives of my family members is in jeopardy. Think about that for a minute, forget all the propaganda and debate and arguments...if your life, or the life of your wife or daughter is in jeopardy maybe from multiple attackers...that handgun or lack of one might make all the difference between survival and tragedy.

All to often the scenario of the armed law abiding citizen firing wildy into a crowd when attacked has been used to argue for this bizarre concept of its better to be a submissive victim to violent crime. While it is definately possible that an innocent bystander could be hit if a criminal and a potential victim carrying a handgun exchange gunfire, that outcome is not certain. It does not seem to happened very often...in fact it seems quite rare. There have been several high profile shootings here in Michigan where only the criminal was shot and only the criminal died. Also innocent bystanders can be shot and have been in situations where only the criminal was armed!!! I just do not see how being in a situation where only the criminal is armed is somehow safer? Even if the criminal does not have a gun, but has you out numbered...say 5 or 6 guys and you are walking to your car, or taking your girl out for a night on the town and they decide to have some "fun" with her, or just you...having that Sig or Glock could be absolutely crucial at that point. Even if you are not armed, if other decent people are, there is a greater chance that they will at least attempt to help you. Why de-power them? That politician who was so insistent that allowing citizens to carry firearms as a means of self-defense was just too dangerous, usually has armed bodyguards (former Mayor Daley) protecting his/her family. The safety/well being, of your family is just not a priority for them.
