WTF is the deal with these flash mobs?

CHICAGO (WBBM) – Police said at least two people were attacked by criminal “flash mobs” in the Streeterville neighborhood on Saturday night.

The first attack happened around 8:25 p.m. Saturday when a man was attacked after parking his motor scooter near the Northwestern University campus in Streeterville.

The man had parked on the 300 block of East Chicago Avenue across the street from Wieboldt Hall when a group of 15 to 20 men, all approximately 16 to 20 years old and black, approached him, according to an alert from the university.

One of them threw a baseball at the victim’s face and knocked him to the ground, the alert said. Several others from the group punched and hit him several times. The victim tried to protect himself and fought back.

The group eventually fled eastbound toward the lake. Chicago Police and Northwestern University Police responded, and Chicago Police later arrested three members believed to be part of the group on mob action charges, the alert said.

The victim was treated on the scene by Chicago Fire Department paramedics.

Police News Affairs Officer Michael Sullivan said the investigation is ongoing as of Sunday morning and no charges have been filed.

A few minutes after that attack, man riding his bicycle on the lakefront path at 701 N. Lake Shore Dr. was attacked by a group of teenagers, who punched and kicked him and stole his cell phone, sources told WBBM Newsradio 780.

Belmont Area detectives are investigating.

I think it's time for the citizens of IL to have a discussion about gun control.

 

It is well past time for the "powers that be" to allow the law abiding citizens of Illinois the right and means to effectively defend themselves. Illinois needs a law that allows law abiding citizens the right to carry concealed firearms for self-defense, like the other 48 soon to be 49 states. This is especially true since so many police departments are being reduced due to budget problems. I take a .40 cal Steyr pistol with me almost everywhere that I go. I go out of my way to avoid trouble, but it is comforting to know that if I was attacked by some of these crazies...in mass that I have my self-defense weapon with me and not stationed back at my home on the bedroom nightstand.

 

Watch it fellas. Posting links complaining about flash mobs is considered highly racist by a couple of the ankle grabbers around here.

What's stopping the flash mob from carrying as well? 15 handguns vs. 1? Unless you're Neo with an Uzi or Agent Smith with an AK47 I doubt it would be of much help in that situation.

 

So what's the harm in having the handgun then? Certainly it's better then having no gun against a flash mob with 15 guns no?

 

The citizen has the element of surprise. He should be able to at least take two of them out.
