Nobody said "which would you rather do for the rest of your life?" Of course people have high burn out rates in wall st. jobs. But, I think most people would be willing to put up for it for a few years. Like others have said, you can always go back to trading your own account after you've accumulated your nest egg. As for the health issue, you're right, you can't put a price on health. But, there's no guarantee that the guy working for GS is going to have health issues and the guy trading on his own will not. You could make the argument that there's more stress trading your own account, since you have no salary to fall back on, no contacts in case you're out of a job, etc.
You are not only the most likely person in this thread to have worked for an investment bank, you are probably the only person in this thread that had it on your goal list in middle school. That isn't a slam just an observation. You were probably a very singularly focused and driven individual. I never even thought about the financial markets until after a full career in corporate America. My point is that it doesn't matter how one gets to their current point in life, one needs to respect whatever path got them there and the individuality that makes them unique psychologically. I respect your opinion that some of our feelings regarding this question are seemingly "absurd". Please respect our opinions for feeling the way we do. And Bobby never was a conformist.
'Has anyone here (other tahn me)actually worked for a major investment bank??? The responces i am seeing are complete and utter bullshit... " Taowave, I guess learning to use proper and simple grammar and spelling is not a prerequisite in attaining a job at a large investment Firm !! I think people here would be more inclined to believe you were this so called hotshot on Wall Street if you demonstrated a little more solid academic background
Yeah, me. Every day and on the sharp end, not in a support role in IT, legal, or admin. But you're right about the compliance issues - any serious investment bank will come down very hard on that, especially anything that could be construed as front-running. Suss
LOL..its amazing how many people take exception to my spelling..i always thought traders were a little thicker skinned..Apparantly,I have come across a very sensitive, insightful group of traders
I never wanted to work in the big trading firm sine I turned to trading professionally after a 1st career had run its course. I am sure trading at GS is a wonderful rewaridng experience but I would need a super super high salary before I gave up trading from home.....
