Would the short ban apply to index futures?

Discussion in 'Trading' started by swtrader, Sep 18, 2008.

  1. Futures constitute a contract with a notional value, terms like long and short are misleading. Buying and selling represent taking opposing sides of the contract, as opposed to an equity transaction where there is delivery of a security, or an actual securitized asset.

I suggest you familliarize yourself with the basics of futures contracts before you speulate on regulation.

  2. banning short selling would have been considered unthinkable until about 2 hours ago, pinhead

to ask if this would be extended to futures is not an unreasonable question

  5. Thank you for your reply, again read my statement and do some research. You are not long an sp or are short an sp, you are entered into a financially settled contract with a counterparty against the underlying index on expiration.

For every short, there is a long. Good trading and have a nice day!
