  4. This year's WPT Championships at the Bellagio was amazing to watch on TV.

Carlos Mortensen finally won after several bad beats, which he in turn levied on the eventual 2nd place winner.

He's the only guy to win a World Series of Poker main event and a WPT Championship.

    $4 million payday....nice.

Hey brownsfans there is also the web site worldpokertour.com. I know for sure it has a list of its tournaments around the U.S.

Would be interesting to enter one or just visit if one of these tournaments happens to come to your part of the country.

  6. Whoops, forgot.

After my 2k bustout I played a $550 NL at the venetian, I bounced after the first hour. I started to get a little frustrated with tourneys.

The WSOP other than the mega-tournaments adds an aditional benefit to the Rio poker room. It also brings some of the juiciest cash games of the year. There are literally people that actually enjoy throwing there money away. I mean a 45 year old tourist who calls a 3bet all-in with A8 suited, or a 22 yr old internet drone who thinks if he moves in he will get you off your kk even though you reraised Under the gun.

Anyway I wasnt looking for nlhe. For the last year, my cash game has mostly been Pot Limit omaha. I dont mean omaha high/low (little girly game). I am talking about Pot Limit omaha high, talking holdem on steroids. If you have never played, I highly recommend it.

So I play PLO(potlimitomaha)online at the 2-4,3-6 and at times 5-10 level. With holdem if you can beat 1-2 nl online, you can beat the 5-10 live. Problem is I have never played PLO live, they rarely spread the game in a casino, so I dont know what the comparison would be.

When I get to the Rio, I put my name down and I am immediatly called for 5-10 PLO. I take a seat and I cash in for $1000 (the max I am able to buyin for online). However I see out of the 8 people at the table I am short stacked, some have 3,5,6 thousand. As it turns out you are able to buy in for as much as you want. I have $2k to lose so I stay with the grand.

Usual suspects at the table. Old guy with a visor, a clueless but fairly good looking blonde woman with a rock on her finger, Asian kid with Armani shades, and two 30 somethings from Ireland.

I folded my first 10 hands preflop. No exaggeration, each of those pots must have been over a $1,000 (online 5-10 avg is usually 3-400 . Wow, I think, could be really sick.

First hand I play I think is 8-9-10-j, which is a huge hand in PLO. I think like 6 people limp in, I raise the pot ($75) , and first limper (asian kid) re-pots (another $225) folds to me. I contemplate re-potting which would leave me with like $200 out of my original grand LOL, OMAHA IS SO SICK!!! But I am in position and can still fold if the flop misses me. I am reasonably certain he has AAxx, so hes usually going to push any flop, therefore I dont have to worry about getting his money in if I hit.

Bingo!!!Flop makes me a str8, he pushes my hand holds and I am over $2k. Overall it was a very friendly table. The old guy was telling war stories of the old days of cards "before this internet shit",the Irish guys were constantly cracking jokes, and the clueless woman would constantly ask "how can you call that?" as she pushes all her chips in 3 times in a row when way behind. Good times.

After the crucial first hand win I never looked back and won $3k in about 5 hours. I played PLO the next 3 days and won a total of over $5k. I took the next 3 days off and went to Phoenix, came back to play the $1500 shootout.

I will write more (now that I know someone has interest) over the weekend.

  7. To learn about poker strategies I highly recommend twoplustwo.com. I am not quite sure what you mean when you say"I found out about games after they are done". If you mean online, Pokerstars.com and Fulltilt.com run games 24hrs real money and play money. For live games, most states now have poker rooms. For a private game you usually need an in, lnow somebody.

  8. Yeah Carlos is a sick player.

To me poker is a lot like golf in the respect that one can only really appreciate watching it on TV if they play it (dont have to be good just play ,lol).

  9. The AQ vs AQ is by far the most horrid way to lose a hand, but know it is a rarity. Also the river King sux, but at times you can just feel it coming.

  10. With theses mega-tounaments you really have to get lucky. Not that making the money is easy, but if that is all youre going for it is not ""that difficult ". But going deep (making the final 27) you really need to get lucky. Yo basically have to win all your coinflips, and have to win as a big underdog at least once. To win it...you have to win at least 4-5x as a 30% favorite.
