Many farmers have been chopping down rubber trees and planting palm oil trees as palm oil gives better returns. Rubber tree farmers leave some of the trees untapped if the rubber price is low (and this is very common). They also cut down their labor force until the rubber price is attractive. Fundamentals are important. During covid crisis, tons of rubber gloves were needed resulting in surge in rubber price. Without all the important information, rubber commodity traders wouldn't be able to trade rubber. Trading rubber is more than just looking at the rubber price chart.

... Not sure when you were last in Japan but a few months ago all 7-11 employees were from India or Sri Lanka. Certainly, Japan is far more homogeneous than most countries but it's a dying country with a shrinking economy. Not sure it's a model!
