Agree. I saw a screening yesterday. Good film, humorous and disturbingly accurate at times. Best finance related film in a long time.
I saw it yesterday, what a great movie. I once haven't looked at the clock, it felt like an hour not three at all. I'll watch it again this week. I hope people won't take this movie the wrong way, I can see how this could be understood as glorification of "wall street" behavior since the movie is really well put together and it displays the other side, dare I say "no-BS/revealing", of wall street which I bet people didn't expect. They expected another "Wall Street" movie and this totally blew their minds. It's a movie that will be remembered for quite some time, what else would you expect from Scorsese? It's good entertainment and you can't help but cheer for the leading character, even though he's a criminal, because secretly you like this guy and you want to experience his life just for a short while. Too bad Belfort is a total A-hole (money changes you) and what he did was illegal and he ruined a lot of lives. He should rot in hell, I don't condone that kind of behavior, but the movie itself was really enjoyable. If you haven't seen it, you should.
I was looking forward to watching this movie and got a few laughs while watching yesterday. Considering the number of quality actors and filmmakers involved, I had high expectations. Overall, I came away from the film feeling like it was just a big-budget film with lots of over-the-top sex and drug scenes. I would have rather seen more about the actual financial dealings and sales strategies. Personally, I think Boiler Room and Wall Street were much better films.
I didn't have any expectations going to see it. The film is the funniest that I've seen in a while. It has truths to it, but a lot is exaggerated, and that's what makes it so funny. It's nice to see a comical view of finance for once. The most realistic thing about the film is the addiction to money, drugs and the "live in the moment" lifestyle.
Just watched it on DVD. Three hours of my life lost with relatively little entertainment value. A step below mediocre. I kept waiting for it to get better.
Yes, this is why I like this movie so freaking much! It's either you totally F-ing love it and you totally F-ing hate it. There's nothing in between "something for everyone" but a pure passion.
It was ok. They glossed over the money laundering, no mention of the mob-influence, and they never show anyone pitching but the Leo and Spike Jonze bit. Really mediocre. For three hours they could've made it move better had they not dumbed it down. I mean, they weren't arbitrageurs, but the penny scam was pretty intricate and completely missed in the film. You never really were told why he was indicted.
I'll be seeing it on Wednesday evening. It sounds to me like a pure celebration of excess, with any concept of critique totally thrown out of the window.
I have no problem with totally empty calories but if that is what I am gorging myself on it has to taste good. My problem with this flick is it just ain't very funny!!
