I read the books as well when each was first released. Honestly, I liked the books a heck of a lot better than the movie. I also got the feeling that the first book did a much better job depicting Jordan's downward spiral into drug induced paranoia and mania.. It seemed like his vice was clearly turning into his burden in the books.. where as the movie felt like it was just the comic relief. The movie was still entertaining though overall..
there were wealthy kids as well, wealthy I mean came from 1% family. Those were actually on average the smoother ones.
I saw the movie a couple of days ago, since I typically love "Wall Street" type movies. Overall, I found it amusing and entertaining, and on a Netflix scale of 0 to 5, I'd give it a 3.9. Living on Long Island, and remembering the news exposure of Stratton Oakmont, it brought back the memories of Wall Street indulgence and reminded me of the 1980's, late 1990's, and to an extent, 2013. Some funny scenes, and it glorified Wall Street for what it really is - excesses, make money at all costs, fleece the individual investor, hyped-up insider trading type IPO's, etc. I really liked DiCapria, as he was the perfect guy for the lead role. I didn't like Jonah Hill as much in his role. I found myself consistently looking at my watch at about 2:15 onward, into the movie. It was way too long, and the same points emphasized again and again. To think that the original movie was 4 hours before they cut out scenes, is totally ridiculous. I didn't take my wife or daughters to see it, as there is excessive language and nudity. I tried to tune those parts out -. I saw it for $ 5.50 in a matinee; wouldn't have paid $ 11 to see it, and would have waited for it to come out on Netflix at that price. IMO, "Wall Street" (Sheen and Douglas) was a MUCH better movie.
I do not think I can stomach this film. Three hours of nothing but douchebaggery, I mean how many times can you watch these guys snort coke and party with trippers before it gets old quick. If you want to see a more well rounded movie I would recommend watching Rogue Trader. Wolf of wallstreet seems just like 3 hours of watching a bunch of guys going on a bender.
Yea, I felt sick to my stomach after watching it. It was good for the first hour. But then it went on and on and on about how stupid a person can be in life. Way overrated, imo..
Ya gotta love a guy that lies to you within the first two minutes ... repeatedly. The video is an hour and twenty four and he assures you it is no more than an hour and then repeats that a couple of more times. I always like to verify the first few hard factual items that a guy pitches me right up front. What you find is that many times you are being lied to right from the jump!
they used to call it the box in method. yes, yes and then close. it worked wonders if you stuck to the pitch, really it did. Unfortunately that sales tactic isn't good for building a long lasting relationship. So unless you have 10 cold callers and 5 account openers I wouldn't try building anything big on this technique. I didn't see all the video so don't know if they are referring to something else in it.
