I once watched a 20/20 show or something similar and it was about how Walmart would have the lowest priced items of any of the stores out there. BUT, it was usually only the LOWEST priced item ouf of the many on the shelves. If you went up to the next higher priced item, other stores were comparable in price or even beat Walmart on that item. Same for the higher priced items in that line. The item line could be toasters or microwave ovens or whatever. So, perhaps Walmart is nothing but a store with a bunch of "lead in" items to draw the unsuspecting into the store where a lot end up buying the second item that is actually more expensive then you could find at another store.
