Does anyone have experience using while boating? If so how far offshore does the typical connection last?
Inmarsat has a mobile sat-receiver for nautical applications. 500Kbps. http://www.inmarsat.com/Services/Maritime/FleetBroadband/default.aspx?language=EN&textonly=False
That is awesome. Sprint direct wants 2 year contract--- this is a great service for those who just need the access for travel, etc. thanks again for the tip! surf
Is 5GB per month enough for typical trading usage? Has anyone paid extra for bandwidth usage? Thanks,
I have 4 monitors for charting with ATT Wireless and I don't use 100MB a day. I think the 5GB should be enough.
I have excel running with dde links and use amibroker at the same time. Keep in mind I only use 20 symbols and 10 columns of data with excel and on the first day I used 250 mb before 1:00 pm central. I cannot believe how fast I was using data. For me the 5gb limit kills it. Also if you want to run an additional 5gb it will cost you $150! Any suggestions?
I got one of the new USB aircards from Sprint. Sierra Wireless USB 598. I was surprised at the speed of the network. Very stable. My plan is to use it as a backup, and for times when I travel. I am concerned about the 5G limitation. I don't have enough experience to know how much a trading application will eat it up. However, I'll just be using it on my laptop. One screen, one chart. OldTrader, I got the same sierra usb sprint device as you. One screen and one chart should run fine. I even use it as a back up to one of my desktops. Everything should stream fine as long as your in a 3G area.
