I have discovered that I prefer to stop ½ hr. before the halt. That's a long day trading from "US Market Open" to ½ hr before the halt! What times do you folks trade? ES
What will tell you that you are ready? Your stats thus far are excellent. You've put on, from the sounds of it, hundreds of trades. This makes it a very statistically significant sample. If going live, your system works as it does in sim, there really isn't much else you need to learn about DOM trading, no? At this point, I do think the only thing you need to learn is how does live trading compare with sim trading, and based on this, you need to learn whatever adjustments you need to make. If you find out that live trading has much different fills, or if you find out that live trading causes you much more anxiety than you thought it would, then perhaps all this sim trading isn't all that beneficial because you're practicing a system that won't work in a live environment. That I guess is my main point. Anything you learn now from another week of sim trading might be a waste if your original premise of what you are doing proves not to be valid.
I want to try the sim tomorrow a different way. I want to put my trades in one tick off...I should be using the sim to experiment. Like go for three ticks and enter on the dom when I get a sig one level up or one down from the sig. ES
This short post speak volumes... So far what I have received from this thread and have utilized: 2-tick targets instead of 1-tick. Daily loss limits set globally on the platform.
So far what I have received from this thread and have utilized: More tics = less commish Daily loss limits set globally on the platform. Commissions will destroy most scalping for a few ticks Sim and Live are not the same eye drops are needed ES P.S. ok I am still bracketing multiple entries with 2-ticks. Got to increase that.
Good Morning traders, Today is the day I try for 3-ticks. (brackets set) I looked at the calendar. Do the T-bill announcements, Fed Balance Sheet or Money Supply move the ES? Well this system can also trade the night session but many calibrations must be made to the settings to accomodate the thinner market with little range. Plus I gotta sleep. 6RT's +$50.00 (commish $15.48) NET $34.52 Daily loss limit moved to $965.48 My fixed costs are just Tradovate membership fees ($199.00/mo). Charts free. Exchange fee $5.00/mo. My labor $35.00/ hour. Income Taxes ummmm got to think about this. ElectricCountsEverythingSavant
morning es may i ask - does the dom that you use allow for saving a trade setup? like can you just click buy or sell and then the profit target and stop loss is automatically placed?
Mark, Yes I set the bracket for TP only this AM for 3 ticks. I use the daily loss limit for stops. Also the DOM has JOIN Buy and JOIN sell which I find extremely helpful when my sig goes off.. I will change it to 2 ticks when I go live. I got to try and enter one tick off today...which will be hard as I want to win. es P. S. Wifey asked why I took a shower at 5:30 AM MST....I told her that I could not be disturbed until 1/2 before the halt.. She asked me what the hell the Halt was...I told her that I liked that word very much I am eating breakfast at my desk I told her. This is serious stuff folks!
These are my DOM's. I can't show you my chart or I would have to kill you. The one on the left has the brackets on...the right - OFF I have an extreme bad habit of editing my posts during the entire hour I am allowed to. So you must scroll up to re-read. This is not a chatroom and I am more interested in archiving correctly. ES
