A major reason to use Pro is because it will have "extended support" for 5 years after support has ended for Home... the difference being that Home is a "consumer" application and Pro is for "business".

  3. SuSE is so easy to install and maintain.

PLUS... It's extremely easy to have both Windoz and Linux on your computer, and choose which you want use at start-up. After a while you'll find, as I have, that you will rarely boot up windows (if at all) unless you happen to run into non-portable apps...

...like Jerry's QT application. Sorry Jerry, no offense to you at all, just non-portability.

If anybody wants, PM me and I'll walk you through it. People need to know how much better Linux/OpenSource sw is. Not to mention (though I will) 10,000+ sw apps for free (as in beer).

  4. linux is probably fun for tech geeks to mess with but most of us have another choice. we can either spend hours trying to get linux to work as well as xp for all of our applications or just use xp and use all of that time for something more fun or profitable.

  5. See Vehn, you just don't know. Give SuSE a try and then feel free to re-post your statement if you feel the same way. I'd be happy to show you if you want... just ask :)

  6. Why would you need to walk anybody through it if "installing is MUCH easier than Xp + Office"

You *nix-heads crack me up, as soon as a thread with Windows in the title appear you all swarm to it like a moth to light.
Sorry, didn't mean to interrupt your preaching - please continue.

LOL! Yeah, the *nix heads do kind of remind us of religious missionaries. (But isn't that really "*.nux" heads?) :D

  9. Sometimes, closed minds need a little direction.

AND winter, it's as easy as popping in the sw you download from the web (for free), booting with it and follow the directions. No different from Windows. If you would like to have both Windows and Linux on your computer, it's just as easy.

The reason *nix heads advocate *nix so much, is because it's much better (customizable configurations for one thing)... and all of it is free!

  10. Funny, someone else said installing it was "MUCH easier", not "no different" from Windows, guess that was just hyperbole.

You know, by all accounts Beta was technically better than VHS but sometimes you just have to let it go. Not everyone is ignorant and waiting to be saved.

I bet many of the folks you are trying to convert would be better off staying with Windows. I know, I know - heresy!
