As noted one can opt-out of the Data sharing and privacy policy intrusions, I was OK with that, even though opt-in would be a preferable. What I didn't realize until I did some further research. Each time MSFT updates it reverts all privacy settings BACK to their intrusive defaults. "It is pertinent to note that Microsoft will activate these setting every time you perform an update, so users should make it a habit to disable these features accordingly." This should be a Deal Breaker for most business's. Personally putting updates on hold on all systems which contain data until a reliable method to confirm I remain opted out is found. It is a shame, as my experience with windows 10 was positive. As Volpunter put it. If your private data doesn't remain private what's the point of having a computer? What an eye opener...
Does it mean that MSFT is a good short sell candidate? For me Win 10 is not an option in such case, Visual Studio 2015 is apparently buggy (I found one, others found more) because they have re-written lots of the compilers. Luckily, seeing where all this is going few years back I put emphasis on having portable code base in preparation for abandoning MSFT ship. I guess sales of Windows 8.1 will grow for a while if it is still available. Win 10 is a Trojan Horse so big that no one is going to see it. Smart.
If this is accurate then Windows lost me on the retail OS version for good and I will switch to the server version.
Not good having Big Brother and others snooping on one, is it ? Privacy is getting harder to come by as the years roll on. Write a bogus email with certain words on it and you know who may well turn up on your doorstep. It was all a joke officer, honest.
Ok, I updated my other trading computer yesterday. This one did not go well. I started out with a flashing screen that essentially locked up the computer. I did a search and found the same problem is fairly common. I followed the instructions I found and the computer is running fine now. I had to power off with the power button and boot into safe mode so I could pull up msconfig screen. I then unchecked a couple of MSFT error reporting services and that made the difference. The 2nd computer was Win 7 and the first with no problems was Win 8. I don't know if that made a difference, but that is my experience.
It was inevitable Windows 10 Privacy issues migrated to Windows 7 & 8. The three updates in question – KB3075249, KB3080149 and KB3068708 (which replaces KB3022345) – all add “customer experience and diagnostic telemetry” to Windows 7 and Windows 8. Windows 7 & 8 privacy updates which need to be uninstalled and hidden.
Some clarification, particularly for the paranoid http://www.securityweek.com/microsoft-clarifies-user-data-collection-windows-10
the single comment at the bottom of the article sums it up: "no matter what privacy options you choose, neither Windows 10 nor any other Microsoft software scans the content of your email or other communications, or your files" If you can sit there and listen to the Snowden revelations, and then listen to this phony assurance by Microsoft less than 2 years later and believe it, then I regret to inform you that you have severe brain damage.
