I am interested in Windows 10, but with Microsoft, I'm always very leery.

  2. Installed Win 10, had a few problems, it would not run Chrome, the Cortina setup was ridiculous, way too many mouse clicks to get something really stupid-simple done, the email aggregator thingy didn't allow gmail to have it's best features... reverting to Win 7 went perfectly however so there's that.

Microsoft just doesn't have a soul or something, I don't understand them. How they could have a stupid-bad design after decades of doing an OS... Otoh I don't understand Linux people either, after decades of an OS with no applications that run on it they say it's just great, it's stable and fast!

What they call their "Mainstream" support has already ended (ie, feature updates). This is wholly different from the end of "Extended Support" which is the big one where they cut off any further security patches, improvements to performance, etc. Windows 7 "Extended Support" is scheduled to end on January 14, 2020. And many tech folks have speculated that Microsoft will end up pushing out that support date even further due to its popularity (the way they did for XP).

    Magna, thanks for the information.

Wartrace and Fractals, you guys indicated that you didn't like Windows 10, so you were able to roll back or revert to Windows 7.

    How is that accomplished?
I mean, when Windows 10 is installed, does it also place an icon onto the notification area of the taskbar for going back to Windows 7 or what is the process?

Your posts seem to indicate that going back to 7 is pretty easy.

Some good information has been posted here.
I knew I had better ask around here before I attempted this.
This Windows 10, so far, sounds like maybe it isn't ready for primetime.

Brother Tango seems to have had a successful install.
Hmmm...Let's see if he reports any problems or a return to 7.

Yep, reverting to windows 7 is easy. You just go to settings then recovery and it handles everything from there. I attempted to install windows 10 a second time last night with a fresh download. I had the same results. I noticed another guy mentioned Chrome wouldn't work for him and I had the same problem; if I opened chrome windows would lock up.

A big problem was that I couldn't access Nvidia control panel to adjust my screen resolution. The highest resolution windows 10 would allow was 1600 x 1200. If I tried to access the Nvidia control panel it locked up the computer. I could not use my 4 monitors with windows 10.

No problems Friday on the one trading computer I did the upgrade. I have Nvidia cards also, I will check when I have a chance about screen resolution. I only have 2 monitors on that computer, and they are working fine. I haven't gotten the upgrade on my other trading computer and that one has 4 monitors, so I'll see what happens.
One of the kids laptops had sound issues after the upgrade. Lost the speaker sound, but had sound with his headset, but not all the time. I sat down with it for an hour today and all is back working fine on it. I can't say for sure it was a result of Win 10 upgrade, but the issue coincided with the upgrade.
