    hi,
I am in building a new trading pc and like to know if Intel's core
2 duo processors are suported by win 2000 o.s.
    Does anyone know?

    best regards

  2. Win2k professional and server both run fine on a core 2 duo.. I have a similar environment running to support a legacy application, and have had no issues.

  3. But do those OSes support multithreading as well as a later version? Without that support, your dual cores aren't going to be used effectively.

Use Windows XP Professional 64 bit edition. It supports multithreading and much easier to use. I run it with a Intel Duo Core CPU. Do not use VISTA, it will give you nightmares.

  5. Win 2K does in fact support 'multi threading'... I personally have developed many multi threaded apps on that platform.

but - the recommendations from others to upgrade is sound. you will soon find it very difficult, if not just impossible, to find software / drivers that will run on win2k... your going to have to eventually; why not make the move now since your upgrading your hardware anyway ??
